I would like to subsribe to your buffy newsgroup. What would I recieve,
things like; all the latest gossip on the show and the characters etc?

Dear Robert,

You cannot private group just like that. First you have to go through a
difficult initiation. You have to accomplish three difficult tasks. I will
give you your first task now: Find the picture of Buffy with the Mickey
Mouse ears and post it in this newsgroup. It will be difficult, but the
reward is being one step closer to a lifetime membership of our prestigious
newsgroup.
When you will have accomplished this task, one of our other members will
give you you second quest, Good luck!

Err..OK, whatever ;-)

Mostly discussion of epsiodes here, not much on the gossip front...And
anyway, its not like its an exclusive little club, I recommend you hang
around a little and read the stuff that gets posted, and decide if you
like it..

Possibly the most inviting chance to do a annoying reply and you pass up the
opportunity?

No "You won't receive anything untill you pay your membership fee"?
No "Accesing this group without a written statement from one of the regulars,
is forbidden. You will be punished severly!"?
None of that? I guess there looms a nice guy in mattia there somewhere.
I hereby name you "Protector of newbies [tm]" (I know. Sorry. I could not
come up with a title that sounded less corny.)

All strangeness aside though, this is indeed the best way to get to know
*any* newsgroups feel. Hang around a while, see what the do's and do nots of
a group are etc. Just lurk

forbidden, you are hereby dismembered. You can reapply for membership in two
weeks, which is your penalty for passing mis-information to would-be members
