Part I - Where Do We Go From Here?
"Yeah Buffy, what are we going to do now?"
As Buffy stood ever powerful and ever victorious observing the giant
crater that now replaced what had for seven years been her home, the
afternoon sun shone brightly upon her making her almost shine like a
goddess. Dawn's question echoed in her mind and she thought, "Where do
we go from here?" As she asked herself that question a smile came to
her lips as she remembered Spike. It had been at the end of singing
those very words that Buffy and Spike had kissed for the very first
time. Oh she had kissed him once before, but not how she kissed him
that night. As suddenly as it appeared the smile on Buffy's face
vanished as she realized that she would never kiss Spike again. Spike
had been right when he told her that she didn't really love him, (not
like she loved someone else anyway), but Spike had held a very special
place in her heart, and she would miss him greatly.
Dawn had noticed the smile on her sister's face and it made her smile
as well. Buffy had not smiled much in the past year. It had been a
long, strenuous and depressing year, but now it was over. All you
could do was smile. Dawn also noticed the smile disappear from Buffy's
face and she asked worriedly, "Is everything all right Buffy?"
Buffy remembered that she had a bus load of young, newly created
slayers in her charge, as well as some very old friends and a sister
that were all looking to her to call the next move in their lives.
Though a very horrible chapter in their lives had come to a victorious
end, a new and exciting one was beginning; they needed time to explore
what that meant.
"We need to rest." Buffy said, finally speaking out loud. "They all
need to rest and recuperate. There are too many things to consider
before taking on the question of what to do with the rest of our
lives. Come on everyone, back in the bus. We are going to a hotel!
Everyone gets their own room, we've been cramped into the same little
house long enough, after saving the world, again, I think we've at
least earned that, our own rooms for a while." Buffy noticed Dawn,
Giles, and even Faith (who loved to live on the wild side) staring at
her as if she were crazy. "What's wrong?" she asked.
"Well," said Giles, "it's just that there are around 30 girls in that
bus, add the non-slayers and you and Faith, and you are talking about
close to 40 rooms. Do you know what a single hotel room for one night
costs?"
"Oh, I'm pretty sure I know a hotel that will give us a good price,
and I'm sure it has plenty of vacancies. We'll go there, rest, and
after re-grouping we'll discuss what to do next. Now come on, it's a
bit of a ride to L.A., we'll stop somewhere along the road and eat."
As Buffy walked away Giles noticed a worried look on Faith's face.
"Are you alright Faith?" He asked, "I don't think we have to worry, I
believe I know what Buffy is planning and I think it is a great idea."
Faith looked back at him and answered, "oh I know what she's up to
also, and it is a good plan, it's just that I hope she hasn't
forgotten that I'm a little more wanted than I generally like to be in
LA.
