Of course it was interesting to see how Angel continued after Doyle's
untimely death.
Gotta say that Angel's attempt with the Oracles to get Doyle back did not
seem very convincing to me. Neither did Cordy's search for a reminder of
Doyle (his favorite coffe-mug). But dealing with the loss was nicely
portrayed in less explicit scenes: Cordy breaking down while auditioning,
Angel refusing to take Wesley with him, Cordy and Barney talking about
Doyle, and Cordy framing her drawing as a reminder of Doyle.
Introducing Wesley (the Rogue Demon Hunter) as a replacement for Doyle?
Strange choice, it seems. Maybe we'll get used to him but I can't see him
making us forget about Doyle. Never did like him on Buffy. He improved his
looks though, but underneath he's still the same to my disappointment. A
demon hunter, yeah right! Fear demons maybe.
As for hilarious, Cordy's first head splitting vision cracked me up. And
when she started crying the moment before, I didn't know whether to laugh or
to feel sorry for her, so I did both. The reaction from the castingcommittee
was priceless!
As soon as Cordy found out about the gift, she had to get rid of it
(involving a lot of kissing scenes). She interpreted Doyle's kiss all wrong.
Luckily Barney seemed to set that straight. The title for this ep appears
very well chosen at this time.
Strange how she didn't recognize Wesley at first. But very funny how she
reacted later on ("I'm a rogue demon hunter now." "Oh, wow. - What's a
rogue demon?"). Noticed how FOX translated 'rogue' all wrong?
I thought the actor playing Barney did a great job. I suspected he would
turn out to be the badguy, but still great acting.
Barney was running for Wesley, Wesley was after the Kungai, and the Kungai
was after Barney. Barney left a trail of victims leading Wesley to believe
the Kungai was on a killing spree (the Kungai must have been chasing Barney
for a long time). So Barney obviously noticed Wesley, Wesley noticed the
Kungai, and the Kungai noticed Barney (kinda hard to miss when he's yanking
the Tak horn from your head) and Wesley. How come Wesley never noticed
Barney
and Barney never noticed the Kungai? Coincidence only? A lot of it then.
And a nice appearance of W&H again. "Our merchandise was just taken off the
market. 3 guesses by whom." Again Angel crosses their path and again they
weren't too happy about it, to say the least. It's building up nicely.
Always knew lawyer's were not to be trusted.
And Cordy singlehandedly (singlemouthedly actually) driving up her own price
at the auction. You go girl!!
Yeah, this was a really nice episode for me. Maybe it was because I had to
do without Angel for two weeks. In the aftermath of Doyle's death, things
picked up rather well. Cordy proved to be a revelation to me, and the series
as a whole is finally taking form for me. I've already seen Somnambulist
yesterday, so I know the up trend continues like the U.S. economy. Booming
times! Only hoping that Buffy S4 can jump on that bandwagon.

Dunno about you, but I can post in 2 threads at the same time....I was
wondering why this ep wasn't discussed at the time, watched it late,
didn't have the will power to start a thread..I'l contribute tho... ;-)
I agree that the Oracles scene wasn't all too convincing, but then the
Oracles don't exactly give you much of a chance to present your case...
I liked the Coffee mug search thing as a principle, an idea; searching
for a tangible something to remeber Doyle by (even though I still don't
know how he died, but don't tell me, I'll find out soon :-), resolved by
that picture framing bit at the end. Cordy's breakdown at the audition
(coupled with the vision influenced take) was a great moment, touching
and funny..
> Introducing Wesley (the Rogue Demon Hunter) as a replacement for Doyle?
> Strange choice, it seems. Maybe we'll get used to him but I can't see him
Unless he changes, I'm not sure I'll like it much at all...He's a pain
in the ass, a bit more than a bit of a fool, etc. At least in Buffy S3
he was counterbalanced by a real watcher (Giles) who is, in many ways,
everything he is not.
> making us forget about Doyle. Never did like him on Buffy. He improved his
> looks though, but underneath he's still the same to my disappointment. A
I didn't like him much, but all he did on Buffy was provide some comedy,
someone to poke fun at (I love the scenes where he's introduced to Buffy
and Faith, esp Buffys "and afterwards, he gives me a cookie!" line.
Dunno, just crackes me up every time. And Faiths "New watcher?/yeah/I'm
outta here" reaction (don't have transcripts at hand going from memory
here)) As a semi-leading man, I've yet to be convinced. It could take a
long, long time to do.....
> demon hunter, yeah right! Fear demons maybe.
Hehe ('What's a Rouge Demon?' is somehow an ironically fitting
misinterpretation ;-)

> when she started crying the moment before, I didn't know whether to laugh or

Very great indeed. As I said, touching and very funny. The casting
commitee was just brilliant.

What kind of a name is Barney for a Demon anyway? Makes me think big,
annoying purple dinosaur (who has been targeted by the biggest hate
campaign ever, see his newsgroup alt.tv.dinosaurs.barney.die.die.die for
one thing..has a whole Yahoo category as well...almost as funny as
http://www.diediediejarjar.com :-)
And yes, well chosen title
> Strange how she didn't recognize Wesley at first. But very funny how she
> reacted later on ("I'm a rogue demon hunter now." "Oh, wow. - What's a
> rogue demon?"). Noticed how FOX translated 'rogue' all wrong?
Fox translated the whole joke wrong (not the first time it happens on
Fox, or Net5, I might add...I try to ignore the subtitles as much as
possible, they annoy me too often..) As for not recognizing Wesley, she
was being her old self: self involved and worried about nobody but her
(which is how she was back in S1...changed over time though, a little
;-) so she didn't really bother noticing who it was, not caring at
all...Heck, she kissed a DEMON.
> I thought the actor playing Barney did a great job. I suspected he would
> turn out to be the badguy, but still great acting.
Didn't really trust him...couldn't put my finger on it, though.

Looked too human? Or is it maybe just that Wesley's an incredibly
worthless, incompetent Rouge Demon Huneter (or anything but bookworm for
that matter...see Grad Day pt 2 or the end of this ep for ample proof,
many more instances avliable as well..) Nice messy and
impossible-to-follow-if-you-haven't-seen-the-ep summary there ;-)
> and Barney never noticed the Kungai? Coincidence only? A lot of it then.
Guess the Kungai was being all stealthy, whilst Wesley is, as said, a
klutz who couldn't hide from a blind cripple in the black forest in a
moonless night...Plus Barney probably figured he didn't need to worry
about the Kungai, probably dead soon anyway without the horn..

Hey! My Unlces a Lawyer!! (but thats not the point here ;-)
Yes, still waiting for some more involvment from W&H..they keep building
and building, kinda like the stupid marine guys in Buffy, no resolution
or major part to be played..
> And Cordy singlehandedly (singlemouthedly actually) driving up her own price

Yes, very good indeed ;-)

I agree, quite a good ep (Still, not even close to Somnambulist IMHO,
good nonetheless..) Deserved more discussion than it got here, in any
case. Cordy is developing into a great character, much more interesting
than she was in Buffy.
I also hope that Buffy can match up to Angel, although I'm not quite
sure its possible. Goods eps ARE on the way though, so I hear, so we
shall have to wait and see..remember too that we are a lot further ahead
with Angel....
There, I replied. Anyone else care to join in?
Mattia
> Dunno about you, but I can post in 2 threads at the same time....
Normally that's not a problem. But I follow more Buffy NG's. Now it happens
that 4.19 New Moon Rising has aired in the U.S. on Tuesday. And it only
triggered close to a thousand postings since then, on a topic really close
to my heart. I won't spoil you, but S4 will never be a complete loss because
of this one episode.
This, and I never remember what movies I like, except:
- Resevoir Dogs
- Pulp Fiction
- Usual Suspects
- Hellraiser(s)
- Raise the Red Lantern
Hey, that actually wasn't too bad. I might join that thread after all!

Makes me think big, annoying Dutch darts player. Can you imagine: a demon
who eliminates his opponent with a nine-darter?

That would be the obvious explanation. But she had a really good look at him
before she kissed him, and after that. It just didn't seem natural. "Say,
she didn't happen to do a bunch of drugs did she?"
> > How come Wesley never noticed Barney?

That sums up Wesley alright. But it still doesn't explain why Barney never
encountered the Kungai again, while it was after his life. Script is a bit
messy here I tell ya, but nor disturbingly so when not given some thought.

...Wesley searching for clues in one town around a kill, reading in paper
about the next kill (he's good at reading papers! Last dutch ep...) and goes
visiting that town, and on and on...

Barney ran away from Wesley. (He reads REAL quick :-)

You download the eps of the net or do you like being spoiled? I avoid US
NGs 'cause ther's nothng to see ther, but I read the UK group (and
contricbute occasionally) and then nksf+f is taking up more time slowly
(dammit, another fun group :-)

Whew..I don't think its going to bad anyway myself...well, almost up to

Actually, the Darter also makes me think of a Big Purple Dinosaur ;-)

Mebbe we thinking too hard (and why isn't anyone else replying? well,
hardly anyone..) Maybe its just Joss' (or whoever wrote this one) way of
emphasizing how much Wesley sucks at what he's trying to do ;-)

Hey, If I can do both, so can they..anyway, its weekend coming up,

[Wesley trailing Kungai trailing Barney]
What probably happened:
Barney collects items and makes victims. After being dehorned, Kungai chases
Barney. Now Barney doesn't know this and goes on, leaving a trail of
victims. Kungai follows Barney, but always one step behind, and thereby the
trail of victims. Wesley follows the victim trail too, probably ten steps
behind. By accident Wesley encounters Kungai @ crimescene, and assumes he's
the killer. Chase continues etc etc.
Works for me now, I'll leave it at that.
(But why did we see Barney running from Motorcycle-Wesley in the Teaser?)
Nope, I'll leave it at that!
Bye, Patrick
Leaving it at that
> You download the eps of the net or do you like being spoiled?
I don't download the eps but I don't mind being spoiled. The threads in
a.t.b. and aus.t.b. tend to get hilarious sometimes, so I read them for fun.
And it is nice to have some different (in depth) viewpoints of a ep in
advance. And I'm a spoiler-slut ;o)

David Fury and Jeannine Renshaw wrote it (yep, I d/l the transcripts!). I
think the point being made is that Wesley can't do it on his Roguely own. He
needs to team up with Angel and Cordy, where he can be of some use.
And we're thinking too hard. I posted my final take on this in another

Yes, that's one of my favourites too. I was too focused on
American films to look around. What about Nattevagten? There is
supposed be an American remake, but I can't imagine it being as
thrilling as the Danish original.

I've been trying to find that link to the article about the
evolution of Barney at HotAIR's website. But it seems to be
down. Wasn't the Internet developed out of a network that was
supposed to stand nuclear attacks? A simple mail-message and
dodgy Microsoft software seems to cripple half the Internet.
When I do find that link, I'll let you know.

Yes, very odd. No idea what bug is plaguing them. But there is a
trick to get to see the document: When you see that errer
