I've mainly been lurking here at abe, but here's a thing that I wanted
to hear other's opinions on.
In Prophesy Girl, Angel says to Xander that he cannot help Buffy with
CPR since he has no breath.
If vampires do not breathe, why do they gasp as if out of breath
when exerting themselves and how can Spike smoke?
Any thoughts?

This is one of the points that has been discussed endlessly in numerous
newsgroups mailing lists and on numerous discussion boards. Its allways
fun though, so here goes:
Thing is, we don't actually *know* it. We pretty much know a vampire
doesn't *need* to breathe because he's a demon infecting a dead body, but
because spike smokes we know they *can* at least inhale and exhale. Now
one would assume that because they don't need to breath their longes don't
take in any oxygen so they would basically be exhaling the same mixture of
gasses as they are inhaling, which means a (relativly) high oxygen count.
On this basis Angel *should* have been able to give CPR. Be he couldn't.
The easiest way out of this would be to say that the scriptwriters made a
mistake (which they probably did), but that would hardly be any fun, now
would it? So lets try to explain this from a BuffyVerse [tm] point of view
and not from the ViewerVerse [tm] point of view. In the BuffyVerse [tm]
everything that happens in the show is reality, so there has to be a
reason *why* Angel can't give CPR. It could be he was lying, or maybe he
simple doesn't *know* CPR and tried to mask that. Other explanations could
be that a vampires breath somehow (magically) doesn't work in CPR. Perhaps
it becomes poisenous or something similar, threathening the human they're
trying to help. I really don't know. Any other takers?

Who loves these old issues.....
have you seen innocence I think it was that ep. angel was angulus again
REMEMBER.................ok!
well he was in an alley and a women asked him if he was allright then he
sucked her blood and took her sigared and smoked it. If i'm right the smoke
came through his skin
(IF I'M WRONG SAY IT PLEASE it has been a long time ago that i saw the ep.)

wow my 4th post ....feels great to post...
That is pretty much how I feel it "should" work.
Since a dead body doesn't need air, just as it doesn't need water or
food, the air cannot change inside the body. The demon, having a body
that's used to breathing and doing things that requires breath (smoking,
talking, etc), does breathe, but from choice rather than need.

I can't see him trying to mask an inability in that very tense moment.

Oooh, that's a nasty one.
Meaning kissing a vampire is far more dangerous than one would think...
A magical, non-explainable phenomena is not something I really like, but
it's a heck of a lot better than being annoyed because the scriptwriters
made a big blunder.

Maybe he didn't WANT to save her.
Basically, read George's post on the subject. It has, indeed been
discussed to death (figuratively.) Lots of varying theories, none of
them really all too convincing. We know that ANgel has some sort of
metabolism (or he fakes it well) sinc he can sweat, you do see his
breath if its cold, and he does bleed (and, it seems, he can get an
erection, which sort of implies bloodflow, desite him not having a
functioning blood pump.) Trying to invent vamp Biology is kinda fun,
though ;-)

Sorry, wrong. He just exhaled it. Funy little detail, that, actually. No
smoke coming through skin on that count. IIRC of course. (Well, its that
or my perception is seriously warped..)

Damn..just look at what happens when you go away for 3 days..and Yes, I
know Buffy is on, I'm taping it (came in 10 minutes late..I'll wait for
another 25 :-)
OK, now could you please, PLEASE learn to quote correctly? One line of
text vs. a couple of paragraphs doesn't cut it, especially a pointless
one like this (IMHO, of course.)
Go here: http://leerquoten.nijntje.net/
read it, integrate it and please, please, please take some of it to
heart. Thank you.
