Anyway, I was watching _Once More With Feeling_ for the umpteenth time
today and I had a thought[1]. I know there has been much talk of the
fact that the initial US broadcast was the extended 50 minute version
and that all later broadcasts would be the normal length. What I want
to know is, did anybody have any idea about what's actually going to
be cut out in the short version?[2] Personally I can only see a
couple of easy cuts, and they don't add up to anything like the
required five-odd minutes.
I also noticed something that made me chuckle on my latest viewing.
In the Xander/Anya song, Xander picks up a newspaper. The main
headline is _MAYHEM CAUSED_. Nothing too amusing there then. On
pausing the ep though, the subheading was revealed to read _MONSTERS
CERTAINLY NOT INVOLVED, OFFICIALS SAY_. Oh how I chuckled. Leading
on from that, I don't suppose anyone knows of anywhere that has the
rest of the text frmo that paper do they? I'm sure it's got all sorts
of other amusing tidbits on it.
Neil / thevoicewithin
[1] Strange, I know, but there it is.
[2] Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, but I have looked
and I couldn't find,
Wohoo!! This is almost your first post, isn't it? Apart from a few
sporadic postings here and there, that is...
Well, from what I've picked up, they've cut the following:
The overture. Entirely.
All of 'Nothing we can't face' (ie, cut after bunnies.)
A verse from 'Rest in Peace'
The entire Dawn dancing thing
A verse from 'Walk Through the Fire'
A few bits of dialogue (Including 'Does this mean I have to be queen'.)
This is from memory, mind you...there's probably more missing

Hehehe....probably hilarious. I'm not sure it's legible, though. Too
small and all. We could always break into the studios and rifle through
the props department. If we were thieves, that is.

Yup, I don't post very much at all, just lurk a lot. I'm been doing
that here for about a year now, you know.
That's not good, I liked that bit.

No problem there.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I was just hoping some sneaky
insider person might have decided that us outsiders should be able to
look at it.

Now that's something I hadn't thought of. All I need now is a plane
ticket over to America, a nifty black outfit, and a grappling hook[1]
and I'll be able to get a hold of it...

Cooool. And no, I didn't. Not really. I suddenlt shudder to think at all
the strange and deviant things you know about me. Well, my posting
habits, anyway.
So did I.

Well, for me, any cut is terrible. This is the least essential scene,
though, so it makes sense it would be the first to get axed.

Perhaps some day...who knows?

We're going to have to work on your criminal mindset. It's not very well
developed.

OK, not too probelmatic or expensive so far...for me, anyway.

Mais of course. Foldup, or mounted in a pneumatic wrist launcher?
la la la. Yes, I'm still alive.

For those who care...
I am extremely obessive. (duh.) To the point of transcribing the
episode. And marking precisely which segments aren't in the final
version. http://qsagent.net/Buffy/omwf.html for anyone who's interested.
Do *not* ask how many times I've watched the damn thing.
...well, okay, the number of times I've *watched* it isn't all that
embarrassing. It's just the number of times I've listened to it.

So, did you like the ep?
/me ducks

Wow - that's *exactly* what I was looking for[1]. Rather annoyed that
Xander's "Does this mean that I have to...be your queen?" line was cut
though.
>Do *not* ask how many times I've watched the damn thing.
So, how many times have you watched it?
/me runs and ducks

and show me where to point it"

It's very well developed I'll have you know - why, only last week
broke into a Military Base and "borrowed" a rocket launcher... I
shouldn't have said that, should I?

Unfortunately plane tickets are too expensive for a poor person like
me, so I'd have to stow away on board - shouldn't be too hard since
i'll be in my nifty black outfit.

Pneumatic every time!
Neil / thevoicewithin
And singing, I see.....I wonder what that means..

Coool.....thanks, good to have another transcript. One with marked cuts.
Very cool. Yes indeed-y.

Umm....

I've got guitar tab for most of the songs completed. That should tell
you something..
/me leans back and watches wackiness ensue...

Hehehe....well, you did have the shooting scripts, didn't you?
Well, ok. I've been told by normally reputable persons that replicated
fish for the purposes of slapping is deviant. I think they're strange,
though..

No. You see, that's the point. There's a balance between doing and
saying, executing the plan and revealing it to the world that sets the
good criminals apart from the Evil Masterminds who will undoubtedly
screw up majorly.

Ah yes. In luggage netting. Will you knock the luggage monkey who comes
in and says 'nobody's supposed to be in here!' unconcious, and then
stand in the luggage bay door posing ominously?

Uh-huh. There *is* a reason why I posted this here. *g*

Hated it, really.

Quack.
I was rather annoyed at all the cuts, really. I mean -- I know they
had to do it (though really, couldn't they just put it in an
hour-and-a-half timeslot?) but it's just so damn *argh*.
>>Do *not* ask how many times I've watched the damn thing.
>
> So, how many times have you watched it?
Hey. Said don't.
Well, okay. Just *watched*... uh...three times, plus I had to watch
the cut version just to see what they cut, plus I had to watch the cut
version *again* to record the cuts, plus I had to watch both the real
version and the cut version again to make sure it was all
correct... so, seven.
> [1] And at least now I know that Xander didn't say "Give me an accent

Heh.
Eh, nothing much.

*g* I'd probably have done that if I had any clue about guitar tabs.
But at this point, I have the entire thing memorized, literally, word
for word, intonation and all. And sadly, I don't even need to look at
the transcript to be able to spout off what was cut.
I am *not* obsessed. I just have priorities.
Funny, somehow I don't believe you...
Hehe...well, 'tab' is a strong word for most of them. Chords, really.

Including dialogue?? Yikes. Songs, I mean, okay, I can sing most of them
off the top of head, some with guitar accompaniment, but dialogue?
> I am *not* obsessed. I just have priorities.
Uhuh. Sure.
Dangit. Why not?

Yup. Dialogue. Including all the uh's and um's and pauses.
And I say again, you really don't want to know how many times I've
listened to it.
>> I am *not* obsessed. I just have priorities.
>

*g* I have good priorities. I have priorities that encourage me to
create a mailing list just because I'm, um, prioritizing.
Nope, don't believe in them. Well, sometimes I do, but only when I
need to check something. So in general, no I don't believe in them.
But in this case I do, because I wanted to know what was cut. So
there we go...
Neil / thevoicewithin
Possibly because I'm humming certain tunes an awful lot myself...
Merciful Zeus!

It's on loop in all your sound producing equipment whereever you go?

Very Dilbert of you..
Obsessive, and marking out which sections are cut from an episode, hmmmm...
sounds so familiar but I just can't place it ;)
Stephen
Yeah...weird...something about video clips and the like, long letters to
the BBC, that sort of thing jumps to mind. Hmmm....who am I thinking
about? I've blanked out..
:-p
