While mindlessly channel-surfing a few moments ago I came accross a
special "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" hour on QVC UK. I was bored, so,
mainly out of curiosity, I stuck with the channel for it's full hour,
watching some inept British woman (who patently knew nothing whatsoever
about the show) and some annoying American idiot attempting to shift
copious amounts of overpriced Buffy tat.
As morbidly fascinating as watching this was (in much the same way as
watching the aftermath of a fatal car crash is interesting) and after
being mildly amused - and not at all surprised - that the first size of
T-shirt to sell out was always XL, I was rather pleased to see
Christopher Golden turn up and attempt to get a word in edgeways between
the rantings of the two gibbering idiot presenters.
There were a few interesting insights (though I'm sure none that weren't
already widely known):
Apparently Mr. Golden is very, very busy at the moment. His flying visit
to the QVC studios was an extremely brief break from his hectic current
work schedule in his London hotel room.
He says he takes on his heavy Buffy workload purely because he is such a
fan of the show.
I think he said there is going to be a Giles lunch box out this autumn.
Mr. Whedon can be a very scary man when his plots are leaked.
He said that he had seen all the scripts "almost up to the end of S4",
which would seem to indicate that the finale(s) isn't written yet.
He has had his own Teen-oriented fantasy series (I'm sorry but I forget
it's name) recently picked up by Viacom for possible TV adaptation and a
couple of scripts shuffling around Hollywood.
He is now a permanent member of the Angel writing team.
(This is possibly new):
Christopher Golden will be writing a special Buffy/Angel Crossover for
early Season 5 Buffy/Season 2 Angel.
Frighteningly, Chris Golden looks EXACTLY how I'd imagined he'd look.
That was it. I watched. QVC sucks. I didn't buy anything. And now, if
you'll please excuse me, I must take a shower. I feel dirty.
Also a reminder for British fans in the South of England:
CHRISTOPHER GOLDEN WILL BE APPEARING AT LONDON' OXFORD ST. FORBIDDEN
PLANET STORE TOMORROW (THURSDAY, 29TH (?) OF MARCH, 2000)

Who remembers when autographs didn't sell for over £100. *sigh*
