Well, if your in Canada, (or at least willing to claim to a website
that you are, and can supply a valid Canadian telephone area code)
then there is a website that will help with CURRENT episodes (like
what is being broadcast NOW). Below you will find the text of a
message that I posted just over a week ago in alt.tv.charmed that goes
into a bit of detail about what you need to do to get a video feed
from Toronto, Ontario, Canada over the Internet. In other words you
can watch episodes at the same time as those of us in Toronto (and
surrounding areas (ie: the 416 and 905 area codes)) see the episode.
Beyond what is noted below, here are some notes that would be of
interest regarding the TV schedule this comming week:
Tuesday 8:00PM Eastern Standard Time
Channels 3 & 49 Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Sunnydale residents lose the
power of speech; an enemy must steal human hearts to stay alive.
Tuesday 9:00PM Eastern Standard Time
Channels 3 & 49 Angel: Angel and Cordelia pursue a demonic bounty
hunter.
--------
Thursday 9:00PM Eastern Standard Time
Channel 9: Charmed: The witches must convince a teenager that he is
the only one capable of defeating an evil witch.
I hope all of this helps, and I would be curious as to how many
sudo-Canadian Charmed/Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel fans are out
there :-) .
Previously posted note:
======================================================
There is a new website up at www.icravetv.com for people in Canada
that offers streaming video taken off several Toronto and area TV
stations. Of particular interest to this newsgroup is that yes, they
offer feeds from the two networks that are carrying season 2 of
"Charmed" CFTO (the Toronto, Ontario CTV affiliate), and WNYO (the
Buffalo, New York WB affiliate) (Normal broadcast times being
Thursdays at 9 PM Eastern Standard Time).
Even though I live in Toronto, and have cable, this is an interesting
site in that:
- They do carry a WB channel.
- Currently (grumble) the cable company that I use doesn't
- If (when) CTV suspends showing Charmed for something like figure
skating (which they did in part during November), better to be able
to watch a poor quality Charmed than none at all...).
Things are not perfect in all of this, I gather that there are already
some broadcasters making noise about how they want to shut down this
site. Even with a very good 56K modem connection, the image is small
and jerky (ie: you will want an ADSL, or other fast connection). The
feeds are basicly live, and I am not aware of software to let you
store the video stream, so you have to watch as it happens (no fast
forwarding with the VCR through commercials, and a potential time
problem if your not operating on Eastern time). As well the legalese
you need to go through before you get to the programming means you
have to say you are within Canada and you must provide your (Canadian)
telephone area code....
On a different and unrelated note for the technically inclined who
might be interested in how Canadian telephone area codes are set up
here is a list and roughly what part of the nation they represent...
604 - Vancouver, British Columbia
250 - British Columbia except Vancouver
780 - Northern Alberta
403 - Southern Alberta
306 - Saskatchewan
204 - Manitoba
807 - Northwestern Ontario
705 - Northern Ontario
519 - Southwestern Ontario
905 - South-central Ontario except Toronto
416 - Toronto, Ontario
613 - Eastern Ontario
819 - Western Quebec
514 - Montreal, Quebec
450 - Southwestern Quebec
418 - Eastern Quebec
902 - Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island
506 - New Brunswick
709 - Newfoundland and Labrador
867 - Yukon and Northwest Territories
I would hate to think of non-Canadian Charmed Fans thinking that
Canada had only one area code, or thought some U.S. area codes were in
Canada...
Finally, let me note that Buffy the Vampire Slayer is shown on the
NewVR (CKVR a local independent station), at 8 PM (Eastern time)
Tuesdays, and is followed by Angel (a BTVS spin-off) at 9 PM Tuesdays.
That website again is:
I know of one, its an FTP site, but keep it quiet as the WB are trying to shut
down any sites that give video downloads, if you want the address you'll have
to mail me cos i dont want to give it out willy nilly.
