One small snag - no-one has posted anything in the group...

That is because two days ago, it didn't exist? Thereby the word "new"
in the announcement.
The group has to be carried by newsgroup servers to be available to
people for posting. My carrier told me that it would probably be a WEEK
before I have it available to subscribe.
Mine has it! :-)

Great! See you soon!
Only if you post a message - which no-one has done so far.

I'm curious to see what messages people will post there. Will there be
any unique content? I suspect not. Just one more group for people to
cross post to.
Well, at the moment, even cross-posts are not working.

You mean an original message?
So far several answers have appeared in alt.fan.joss.whedon in this thread.
So, messages /are/ there.

The group exists on my ISP, but at present there are no posts in it -
presumably a peering problem.

Mine shows them.
I've already posted original posts to both the Joss-group as well as the
Dollhouse group.

Some servers, when they add a group, it will take a while for messages
to show up. Sometimes they never do show messages that were there
before it was added,
Dr. Horrible currently does not have a "home."
Sorry to be pedantic, but according to naming conventions shouldn't it be
alt.fan.joss-whedon?
Yup. But since it was accepted as it was and is already being carried
by ISP's, I'm thinking that ship has sailed.
But look, it could easily birth such new groups as:
alt.fan.joss.williams (Special Effects)
alt.fan.joss.ackland (Actor, The Hunt for Red October (1990))
alt.fan.joss.moorhouse (Writer, Proof (1991))
alt.fan.joss.buckley (Writer, "Emmerdale Farm" (1972))
alt.fan.joss.geiduschek (Special Effects, Jurassic Park (1993))
alt.fan.joss.gower (Stunts, Gladiator (2000))
alt.fan.joss.stone (Soundtrack, Fantastic Four (2005))
alt.fan.joss.agnew (Director, Tracy Beaker's Movie of Me (2004) (TV))
alt.fan.joss.moroney (Actor, The Sum of Us (1994))
alt.fan.joss.aguila (Writer, Trotacalles (1951))
alt.fan.joss.king (Writer, "Pirate Islands: The Lost Treasure of Fiji")
alt.fan.joss.ambler (Actor, Contraband (1940))
alt.fan.joss.barratt (Camera and Electrical Department)
alt.fan.joss.crowley (Miscellaneous Crew, Hot Fuzz (2007))
alt.fan.joss.mcwilliam (Actor, The Coolangatta Gold (1984))
alt.fan.joss.flores (Visual Effects, The Chronicles of Narnia)
alt.fan.joss.Garcia (Cinematographer, Puppet Soldiers)
etc,etc,etc.
These people could ALL deserve newsgroups in the future!

My provider has added alt.tv.dollhouse but not alt.fan.joss.whedon. I
wonder if it might be related to the newsgroup name. (It should be
alt.fan.joss-whedon since alt.fan.joss.whedon requires the server to
create two new hierarchies in order to add just one newsgroup.) I
don't know that this would make a huge difference one way or another
but more anal retentive types will likely make an issue of this
problem.
