Willow looked up in the direction of Giles' office from the computer that
seemed to have aquired a near-permanant position in the Library. Giles was
bent over his desk, reading yet another tome of lore and prophecy, trying to
find yet another snippet of information for his slayer.
Willow looked back at the screen to see if this was worth disturbing Giles,
even just as a distraction for a short while.
The cursor flashed around the middle of the screen, waiting for some sort of
response. Eventually Willow stood, and knocked on Giles' door.
"Yes Willow" came the tired response.
"I, erm, thought you might be interested in this, seen as you are British
and, well, I ... never mind."
She turned around, and started making her way back to the computer. Giles
took his glasses off, and rubbed the bridge of his nose.
"What was it Willow?"
"You know that the site about us all in the UK called www.buffyUK.org?"
"Yes, I knew it was there? Why, is there a problem?"
"No, quite the opposite really... They are looking for something."
"What is it they want. It must have been at least vaguely important
otherwise you wouldn't have bothered me."
Willow looked away to her computer, and then back again.
"Well.... They are looking for someone to write some fanfic for them."
"So?"
"They thought we might know some people who could write some good fanfic for
them."
"What are they looking for?"
"It needs to be PG rated, because if it isn't, they won't keep their link
from the BBC."
"That makes sense"
"And as it is supposed to be for British Viewers, and the site's policy is
to only allow information that won't spoiler the viewers who haven't seen
beyond where the BBC have shown the show, it mustn't include spoilers past
Reptile Boy, although the later you leave your submission will alter the
current spoilered episode. Apparently the current episode's name is shown on
the front page to the BuffyUK.org site."
"I suppose that makes sense too."
"And apparently, there is a competition which will be happening soon too,
and everyone who sends in a piece of fic for the site, gets entered into the
competition."
Giles looked a little more interested at this point, probably thinking he
could write a story or two that would beat any story that any fan could
write, although, he would probably have to write it under some psudonym,
just so that the judges didn't know it was one of the real people that the
series author used to get ideas for his "TV series".
"It sounds ... interesting - do we know what the prizes are?"
"Apparently it is a £50 top prize as vouchers from one of the Amazon
companies in local currency, and a graphic showing that you won the BuffyUK
Fanfic competition. There is also a possibility of either a larger prize or
a second prize, depending on the number of entrants, and the top five will
get a graphic by their fic."
"Alright then... so, were there any disclaimers?"
"Only that in submitting the stories, you accept that it can be displayed on
the site, at the organiser, and promoters discression, and that the rules
can be modified by the judges if they see fit. Oh, yes, and you have to
enter before the end of December 1999."
Giles was about to speak when Willow butted back in by saying "Oh yes, and
there is a word limit too... its two thousand words, but apparently that is
only for the competition. If you just want to publish your fanfic on the
site, it doesn't matter how long it is, as long as it is in one piece."
"So, why did you want to show me this Willow?"
"Because I thought, with you providing me with some ideas, and me typing, we
could produce the best story in this competition, and maybe become famous!"
"I think that is a trifle over-enthusiastic Willow, but we can give it a go
if you want."
Willow looked back to her screen, and hit the "New Mail" Button, and started
typing

*FADE TO BLACK*
So, as you can tell from the above *LONG* fic, we at http://www.buffyuk.org
are having a competition soon. The prize of £50 in local currency vouchers
from Amazon, or one of its daughter companies may or may not be increased,
or a second prize may be added depending on the quantity of submissions, but
I'd hope that the possibility of being ranked "Best Writer", or "Top 5 on
the BuffyUK.org site" might provoke your personal muse or creative spirit
sufficiently in the mean time. This competition is to launch a new section
in the BuffyUK website - the FanFiction section, and we really want to make
this as the best quality fanfic archive we can, so, we await your entries!
Any number of entries will be accepted to the competition, and by submitting
to the above e-mail address indicates that you are willing to have your work
published on the site, after it has been approved for publication by one of
the fanfic comittee.
Any amendments to the rules of the competition will be confirmed at the
site, and to authors who submit their entries to the competition.
For any information regarding this competition, please contact
fan...@buffyuk.org, or j...@buffyuk.org
