"You're beneath me"

Welcome to Spike 101, all about his past and the Slayers he killed. See,
sometimes history can be very entertaining. Especially when Spike is
your teacher.
Buffy was the model student, eager to learn everything there is to know.
Well, model student.... I imagine no teacher likes their students to
beat the lessons out of him.

But Buffy got the information she wanted. Not that she liked what she
heared. She was looking for some details on how the Slayers that Spike
killed messed up, so that she could learn from their mistakes. But it
turns out that there were no mistakes made. The Slayers wanted to die.
They had a death wish, but probably were not conscious of it. And Buffy
will reach that point as well. So it's not something Buffy can train or
prepare for, which is not what she wanted to hear.

But this is all in Spike's humble opinion of course. He might be wrong,
or what he sensed in those Slayers might not hold true for all of them.
Buffy's slip-up with the punk-vampire might be nothing more than that: a
slip-up. If you're fighting demons and vampires on an almost daily
basis, something's bound to go wrong sometime. And the problem is that
when it does, it probably means the end of Buffy. Riley won't be always
around to save the day (at least I certainly hope so!). That Buffy will
die in battle is pretty much a given, just like it's very likely that
she won't live to see her 30th (or so) birthday. It's tragic, but it's
reality. Buffy wants to do everything in her powers to prevent dying
young and that's very understandable. But she also much face and accept
the fact that Slayers come with a limited life expectancy.

Spike's 'death wish' explanation does have it's logical sides though.
Just think about it: when you're life consists solely of fighting the
most dangerous (not to mention ugly and smelly) monsters and demons, you
might get tired of your life some day. Maybe hoping that death will
bring you peace or maybe that you'll get a free ticket to heaven as a
reward for all the lives you saved. It's not like a Slayer can switch
jobs when she's tired of her current one. Well she could try of course,
but evil would probably always haunt her. Or else she'd go crazy of the
feelings of guilt about all the people who die because the Slayer is not
doing her job.
And besides, Buffy isn't a typical Slayer. Like Spike said, she has ties
to her earthly existance other than her calling: she has friends and
family. Still that might not be enough some day. It all depends on
strength of character. The real question is: how strong is Buffy?

Very nice info on Spike's background. A wonderful story. Interesting to
see that Drusilla sensed that Spike was special. Special enough to sire
him. With Spike it's all in his (now non-beating) heart and in his head.
His passion and his emotions are what make him special. Special enough
to beat that kung-fu Slayer. If she, with all her skills and moves, and
most importantly her sword, can't kill Spike than he must be very
strong. Or just plain lucky.
Not only is Spike exceptional because of his feelings and emotions, he's
also the only vampire that really breathes. Why else would he breathe so
heavily during fights? And was Angelus planning on killing Spike by
choking him?

It's clear that Buffy has grown into something of an obsession for
Spike. First he only wanted to kill her, but now he wants a lot more
from her. Which grosses Buffy out big time of course. But what is it in
Buffy that attracts Spike to her so much. All she does is either insult
him or hit him for no apparent reason (if you hate the guy than stake
him already). But that's just Spike: always looking for an interesting
challenge. The harder Buffy tries to kick him away from her, the harder
Spike tries to come back. It's almost a fetish.
But I like where they're going with this. Spike's obsession with Buffy
makes him interesting again, and it brings out the best in James
Masters. The final scene with the Homicide Interruptus was beautiful and
touching. Just like a lot of scenes were in this ep. So it won't come as
a surprise to you when I say that I loved this ep.

Bye, Patrick

Aired on the BBC, hence none needed.

Erm, right.

Hmmm...would now be a good time to bring up things like quoting and
bottom posting? Probably...

Riiight...

And I was doing what, pray tell?

Anyway, about the top posting thing: reply underneath messages, not
above. Snip irrelevant bits, don't quote entire messages, and follow the
posting rules outlined in the, well, posting rules that P@rick posts
weekly.

At least, if you want to get along with people, I reccomend you try
these things. Makes things run oh-so-much more smoothly.

Freaky, hartstikke leuk dat je er bent hoor maar even een paar dingen.

In de Spoilerfaq die ik regelmatig post heb je kunnen lezen dat Fool for
Love spoilervrij is. Dus vandaar geen spoilerspace. Don't worry, ik ga
de Faq binnenkort helemaal aanpassen zodat hij wat makkelijker te lezen
wordt.

Verder is het, zoals Mattia al zei, goed gebruik om onder de quote te
antwoorden, zoals we hier eigenlijk allemaal doen. Dat leest een stuk
makkelijker (try it, it really works!).
