"Angel, we love you!"
Which was the most hilarious scene of the episode. Right, this is going
to be a quicky I think. Which is actaully a shame since this was a
pretty good episode. And to think that I actually wanted to rewatch BtVS
6.07 rather than watch this ep. It's not a fair comparison, but Angel
puts up one hell of a fight. I couldn't write a review after watching
Once More, With Feeling for the first time, and after this Angel my head
is spinning *again*! But here are my ungathered thoughts.
I've never been e real big fan of Darla, but in this episode she rocked.
I knew that pregnant women could be cranky (not out of experience thank
god) but Darla was... well actually as you'd expect from a pregnant
woman who has been stood up by the father. And I was just waiting for
her to jump Cordy. And Darla was waiting for the right moment as well. A
bit odd that Angel left the two of them alone together. Maybe Cordy
might have known better, but Angel *certainly* should have. Sometimes
Angel is turning too much into a whimp ("Am I swelling?"). Angry Cordy
or no, Angel shouldn't have left her alone with Darla (of all
vampires!). Just like he shouldn't have left Gunn alone to stand watch
by her door (facing the room backwards which is real smart considering
how fast Darla can move and how she shoved the three of them aside in
Caritas).
One thing is cleared up: vampires are not supposed to have babies. Well,
they're not supposed to have souls and Slayers are not supposed to
return from the dead so theory or gospel only gets you so far. Just like
prophecies. I'm not going into this one to deeply for now (don't have
the transcripts :) ) but it sounds eerie. And I like it! With the
creature waking up from the stone (hello have we met before?) and
whatever's inside Darla, there's a lot of paths this story can take. And
since when can't beings with a soul and a heartbeat be evil? I mean,
just think about Riley... whoops, wrong show. But the point, of course,
is that no one is sure exactly *what* will come out of Darla. It's
making her very bloodthirsty so I take it that it'll be no ordinary
baby.
And Darla's bloodthirst made for a very nice scene in the bus. Creepy,
like it should be. Expecially after that wonderful opening scene. Yeah,
this was almost genuine horror. The thought of Angel and Cordy getting
it on is also horror, but of the 'yuck' variety. Can't to people have
intimate and sweaty bodily interaction without someone thinking that
there's more to it? And Angel can't even sweat (or can he, must check
the books on that).
Cool episode, way promising (or 'Expecting' actually :) ). And it looks
like a two-or-more parter so I'm looking out to the next episode. More
than the next Buffy. The next Buffy I somehow fear since it can only
disappoint me after the greatness that was OMWF.

Wel, medium-y. I enjoyed that scene, very odd, partly also because after
having read Greenwalts "Angel's romantic feelings for Cordelia"
comments, I don't really trust him.

Indeed. This episode is, of course, designed to be a head-spinner; we're
finally kicking off the arc, seeing new connections and learning plenty
of new things. The arc is kicking into full swing for sweeps season, and
the big question is, of course, where do we go from here?
This episode's good, not great, because of the fact it is -essentially-
purely there to set up the rest; it's padded with some rather
predictable jokes (who didn't think that Gunn would just open up the
door..) as well as some really nice funny ones (the 'we love you' scene,
although Goofy!Angel is becoming rather omni-present..) and contains
some DEEPLY stupid behaviour for the sake of plottage from, well, the
entire gang vis-a-vis Darla.
> I've never been e real big fan of Darla, but in this episode she rocked.
Yup. Pretty much. Whiny Human Darla tended to annoy me.
> I knew that pregnant women could be cranky (not out of experience thank

Pretty much. Although, hey, she DID ask for it.

Agreed. On both counts, although I do think that Cordy herself should
also very definately have known better. She's always been one of the
brightes of the lot, the most careful. I'm not really buying the whole
'maternal instinct' thing as an excuse to get deeply stupid.
> Angel is turning too much into a whimp ("Am I swelling?"). Angry Cordy
Heh..The 'am I swelling' line was funny, but slightly overkill. Bit of a
recycled joke for me, being a pared down version of the 'you can't hurt
me' in 'Untouched'.

Well, that was Gunn's choice, which direction to face. I honestly think
that, when armed, Gunn can take care of himself. Of all of them, besides
Angel himself, he's got the most experience in fighting vampires. And a
wicked quick trigger finger.

Hehehe....

:-)
I'm not sure we can go in too deeply right now due to the setup-y nature
of the ep. There is much to speculate about, but I fear I won't have the
time to do that before much is revealed to me by the next ep(s)..
> With the

It's like 'oookaay...Holtz did a Han Solo...interesting..'.

Well, she was looking for kids. Her equivalent, perhaps, of 'health
food', what with the whole innocence angle. As for the 'soul' thing, all
it means is that the being isn't inrinsically evil. I'm really curious
about where this'll go, though.

Oh yes, lolvely scene. Also served to underline how STUPID the AI guys
acted.

He can. Well, when fevered. Remember Grad Day?

Hehehe...pessimist.
This kind of ep does have the advantage of the aforementioned setupness.
OK, OMWF set up a number of things that need handling, but in a very
different way. Here, we're stuck in the middle of a narrative moment.

Yeah, that is the big question. It's such a big question even that one
might write a song about it ;)

I keep thinking about the boy back in IGYUMS. He had a soul I assume.
But he was really evil, in a very scary way. Can you have a soul but no
conscience?

Now there's a thought! Oh, wait a minute....

Did he have a soul? I think the implication was that he didn't, that he
didn't have anything; no soul, no demon, just emptiness. Not that it's
particularly clear, mind you..
