JM really is a masterful actor. (I'm sorry George if you get
bored reading this.) It seems that all he has to do is walk onto
the set to dominate the scene. Never that awkward feeling like
"those lines don't sound very convincing", I get with e.g.
Buffy or Willow. I mean, there are great actors in the show,
Kristine Sutherland, Juliet Landau, Anthony Stewart Head, Armin
Shimerman. JM is of a different order, and the part he plays is
a feast to watch. There are not many actors that have his
capabilities and screen presence, in their voice, their mimics,
their every move. Johnny Depp is one (21 Jumpstreet died when he
left). Brad Dourif is another.

Have to agree. He is cool. Boy, is he cool. And the more you watch him, the
cooler he gets.

Yep. And the combination JM / JL, or rather Spike / Drusilla is sheer magic.
The moment he notices that she has followed him in, turns his head and
instantly loses his game face is... magic.
Anthony Stewart Head, Armin

Funny how those three are so completely different from each other. I don't
dislike Johnny Depp, in fact, he's rather cute, but I don't think he's a
great actor. BD is a real fine actor, but not a guy I enjoy looking at, and
when you're an actor, that's a bit of a handicap. :))
And all this made me wonder, you don't like the X-files, do you? I'd say
Nick Lea (Krycek) also has that overwhelming 'presence' that you seem to
like. And come to think of it, Paul Darrow, aka Avon in Blakes 7 practically
owns the concept of appearing on screen and silencing both audience and
co-actors. Then again, I'm not sure if that's due to his acting qualities or
my hormones. :)))

The role of Spike is very rewarding. From mischievousness, to
eloquence, to sheer rage, to tender care for Drusilla, who
undoubtedly inspires him into more wickedness.

Well, you can't be a Horror fan and not like BD. I mean, who
better can portray a dark, brooding demon like character?

Some premises of the show I don't like. This conspiracy thing
doesn't work for me, and is very boring. I don't particularly
like Mulder, and Scully is too often proven wrong, and generally
much too nice. I like Scully when she's in a really nasty mood,
which happened only once in the episodes I saw. But still, I
might start watching again.

JM in the role of Spike might be a lucky draw. But I saw him in
Millennium, and he was very good in that part too.
Thinking about a strong screen presence: I really like Frank
Black (Millennium) and Sam Waters (Profiler). I don't know the
names of the actor and actress. I especially like the strong
facial expressions of Sam Waters.
