IIIII don't know..... everyone is already raving and 'woohoo-ing' and
It'sgottabegreatcostheybroughtChrisBeckback-ing about it (although he hardly
wrote any of it) and I was never particularly looking forward to it. I'm not
a fan of musical episodes (with an exception for Ally McBeal) so I thought
I'd go look at the preview a few times so I could maybe get used to them all
singing and take away some of my fear. Didn't really happen yet... the first
time I was burying my nails in the wall and cringing my teeth, the second
and third time were a little less painful but still. It just sounds *so*
*corny*! Ick. I did like the sudden changes from corny to Spike's rockmusic
and Anya and Xander's dancing number looked nice so that's hopeful...
Oh well. We'll just have to wait and see.
Anyone else see it? It's on buffyupn.com/musical

Right. So you don't like Musical eps, since, well, Ally musical eps are
eps without plot or original non-randy newman recycled tunes. IMO, of
course. Ally's take on musicals is nothing more than a funny little
flight of fancy type thing. I'm hoping for a little more from this. Of
course, I'm a big musical fan. Not, perhaps, for TV shows, not having
seen much of any, but in general, I like 'em.

Hmmmm :-/
Well, it's not for everyone, obviously. I'm carefully optimistic. Trying
to avoid the hyping campaign, though..

There was only one Ally musical episode I believe.
I liked the Ally McBeal musical because I *love* each and every character on
that show and I love the show. Which is the reason why I then also loved the
musical. Also, music has always played a part in the show. I'm not saying I
loved it because the songs were so great. This was not an objective opinion
about it being 'good' or 'bad', I don't care about that, it's about my
personal feelings.
With Buffy, I need more because at this moment I don't think I love the
characters as much as I used to anymore.

I love the Vincente Minnelli musicals from the fifties. Modern stuff, not as
much.

Well, actually that'll be http://www.buffyupn.com/musical.html
I must say that this looks great and I can't wait until I get to see
the full thing. One thing though - I can't seem to work out how to
save the trailer onto my hard-drive - it just seems to want to stream
off the internet. Anyone got any helpful pointers for me?

Hmm, no I wasn't able to save them either unfortunately. You might want to
keep an eye on http://www.vidiot.com/Buffy/promo6.html Mr. Vidiot usually
has all the latest promos. I'm a bit surprised he doesn't have it yet....

Right. Make that 'ep', then.

I like most characters, love a few (Richard, Ling, John..), but the show
doesn't quite do it for me the same way Buffy does. Or Angel, for that
matter, but having heard that cast sing....<shudder>
> Also, music has always played a part in the show.
True. Differently than on Buffy, that much is obvious. Witness the
resident singer person who does covers of, well, everything..

Right then.

Hmmmm :-/
FWIW, I still do. Sappiness, or something, I'm not quite sure what, but
the connection's still there for me.
Also, example. Giles' little short musicalish number in 'Restless'?
Loved it. I'm remaining (carefully) optimistic about this whole deal...

I don't know them much at all (I don't think..) My fave would have to be
JC Superstar, though, which is more of a rock opera, or something. I've
also been in a number of musical productions ranging from 'classics'
like Guys and Dolls, Oliver, to some stranger, more unknown and
modern-ish stuff like Working and Celebration..all fun.
:-) To be honest, it's not fair to compair of course. My fault, I brought it
up. Still, if there weren't download- or videotape possibilities and you'd
force me to choose between them then yeah, AMcB would win, easily. Can't
give you a rational explanation and again it's not saying anything about one
being better than the other, it's a matter of the heart really ;-)

Good for you. I wish I felt the same... but I feel it slipping. And then I
get treated to a great episode and everything is wonderful again. It's just
those in-between moments ;-) :-/

Hmmm.... well, in the meantime I found out that the singing is actually part
of the storyline. That *could* help. Anyhow, we'll talk again in two (?)
weeks time.

Oh that's too bad! Take note of the list at
http://us.imdb.com/Name?Minnelli,+Vincente and try to see some of them.
"American In Paris" is the very best one, perhaps you know it after all.

That's all cool, except I've never heard of that last one.

The only thing the shows have in common is there are a) actors in them,
b) they're shot on film, c) that sort of technical stuff, and c) they're
both a little quirky and genre-busting.

Hmm...my mom and sister would agree with you, me, no.

Fair 'nuff ;-)

Right. A bit of a seesaw action thing going...

Sheesh..that's like the first thing Joss said. If there are 16 numbers,
the ep either has NO plot, or it's all proper plot. I'm hoping the
latter, really. Should be....interesting.

True, true..and yes, 2 weeks. Nov 6th.

Know of it, yes, know it, no. My 'old movies' knowledge is lacking to
non-existant (old being, well, before I was born. Well, not quite. Pre-
1970's, I guess...)

Neither had I...it's...odd. Best word to describe it.

They're there now!

I'm afraid I'm actually going to like it. The lyrics sounded a bit
corny, but some of them were promising. "Where do we go from here?",
with all of them walking in different directions. Looks like a lot of
interpersonal issues are going to be dealt with. And what better way to
do that than in a musical? Shut down all brain functions and enjoy the
show. Don't go moping afterwards that nothing really happened because it
was just a muscial, and especially don't go into Buffyverse vs
Viewerverse territory. That seems to be the way to approach this ep.
Bye, Patrick
curious and mildly excited.
Don't forget that they all speak American (well, usually anyway).

Yeah... not a nice place to be.

Well shees. Since I tend to stay away from *any* information about future
episodes I didn't know this. The only reason I knew that this one was coming
was because you guys told me. And yes, now I watched a trailer... coming
down to the spoilerslut levels fast ;-) Anyone down there to catch me?

Check. See you then, then.

I saw it...
I saw it again...
And again...
Yes, I'm hyped...
Ok, to be honest, I'm normally not especially fond of "musicals". It's
very corny and there's seldom any music I really like (I'm into heavy
metal).
But Buffy and crew singing?
From what I see and hear it's very promising.
First of all, some of the actors are VERY good singers, some are not.
That it's allowed to come out is a very good thing.
From what I gather in the preview something is making everyone
bursting into song and acting "musically" just as something took away
everyone's voice in 'Hush'.
This is wierd acting by characters that are aware that they're acting
wierd.
So far, I just love it!!
