A magical game today when Willow Rosenberg took on Amy Madison. The two were
well matched, as each of the three sets showed 6-6 before before the
tie-break. The girls were applying some novel sorts of spin on the ball as
most balls didn't seem to follow a predictable trajectory, at times even
defying the laws of nature. The players made a nervous impression. During
the breaks, both players were occupied with rituals which looked like
invocations, sometimes calling out names. The umpire decided not to
interfere, as the namecalling was not offensive. The enchanting match was
ultimately won by Madison. After the match Rosenberg stated that she
suspected foul play by Madison, or 'black magic' as she put it, swearing to
get back at "that little rat".
The Summers-Harris double is showing signs of a break-up. After an easily
won match, in which Summers returned most of the serves, Harris spilled his
guts
about his partner to the press. "I might as well stayed at home" he
proclaimed. "I don't know if I can keep this up. She makes me feel
redundant. I thought we were a team". In a reaction, Summers stated "I think
I just violated the guy code big time".
Disease strikes after the Kournikova-Anyanka match. Right after Kournikova
had degraded Anyanka with two straight love games, she left the court in a
hurry and later collapsed in the changing room. Meanwhile on the court,
several linesmen and the umpire fell ill as well. All have been taken to
hospital, but the doctors haven't been able to determine the cause of the
sudden illness yet.
Another incident involving the umpire was seen during the Giles-Rayne match.
Giles protested heavily after a lineswoman had judged his passing shot out.
Initially umpire Snyder seemed to back that decision up. But he had a sudden
change of heart after Giles asked Snyder if he would like to be convinced by
him. The umpire appeared intimidated by the incident, and ruled mostly in
favor of Giles for the rest of the match, overruling some more lineswomen
and the netserve-indicator. Rayne filed an official protest after the match.
Sensation on centercourt, where a battle of giants was fought in the
Summers-Faith match. In this smash-a-thon, that lasted for five and a half
hours, both players trashed several rackets. Serves were measured at speeds
up to 170 mph. And some rallies lasted more than ten minutes. The groaning
and moaning produced by the players brought back memories of Monica Seles.
The match was won by Summers, wo will be taking on Wilkins in the finale.
Both players were thoughtful enough to take the broken rackethandles with
them after the match.
Bye, Patrick

ROTFL So *that's* the real truth about Amy!
BTW, bought a Buffy tape today (S2 eps 12 thru 15) and so now I've got
four brand new eps to look forward to. Well, brand new to me since I
missed the most part of S2. Yay!!
Saskia :-)
It was you that wrote the snooker one wasn't it?
