is the name of an episode in season four.
But Buffy wondered this out loud about Giles. Shocked as she was when Giles
admitted to Buffy to having drugged her and supressing her Slayer powers. I
remember I was shocked to when I first saw him administering an injection. I
noticed his very unnatural behaviour, and even wondered if it was the real
Giles, or whether he was possessed.
Buffy felt *very* betrayed by Giles. The last men she expected something
like this from. The very same man she tried to talk into taking her to the
ice-show, like the substitute father that he is to her. It was a great and
touching scene when expressed her deep disappointment to Giles, and Giles
trying to explain he didn't agree with the test but he had no choice. And
when Cordy entered, that was way funny. That even made the scene stronger.
The second very touching scene was when Quentin congratulates Buffy and
fires Giles. In fact, he clears things up between Buffy and Giles by saying
that Giles has a father's love for Buffy. And firing Giles, who Buffy knows
is the perfect watcher for her, makes their bond even stronger. Buffy is not
going to take anyone serious but Giles. She might hold his betrayal against
him for a while. But ultimately she will realise that there's nothing that
Giles wouldn't do for her.
When Buffy's powers faded away she was becoming more and more helpless. But
not only helpless, she was contemplating her life without the powers. She
realised that being the Slayer has become a mayor part of her life, *and*
her self. She doubts that she could ever lead a normal life, even if her
powers were to stay gone. Now that she is getting her powers back, she will
take them more seriously and appreciate them more. She might reconsider her
unique position as the Slayer, and not take it all for granted.
In that way, the otherwise stupid and dangerous test has served it's
purpose. It made Buffy stronger and more confident in the end. It makes her
a better Slayer.
Watch out all you bloodsuckers. Buffy is back, stronger and punnier than
ever!
Bye, Patrick

Hmm, yes, that's true. I was thinking out loud, in that other group we
all know and love, what a stupid idea such a test was, but if you put
it like this, then I see your point. Because there have been times
that Buffy didn't take her slaying powers seriously and I think I even
remember a moment where she said she wanted to be normal.
But still, I mean really, did they have to destroy Buffy's faith and
trust in her Watcher in the process? Isn't that relationship
incredibly important too? Surely they could think of another, better
way.

"You know, nothing's really gonna change. The important thing is that
I kept up my special birthday tradition of gut-wrenching misery and
horror." (Buffy - who else)
I think the original plan was not to let buffy know that the council
was involved in all this, so she wouldn't know that Giles was
responsible for the loss of Buffy's powers. But, the plan didn't work
out as planned, so buffy was furious when Giles told her what he did.

If Buffy survives the test, she's sure to want some questions answered. Like
why did my powers disappear, why did they come back, why was I sent to that
house, why was there a vampire waiting, why were the doors and windows
blocked, why was I sent to a house with a vampire waiting and the doors and
windows blocked when I don't have my Slayer powers.
Giles would have a lot of explaining to do, so I think they would tell about
the test afterwards. And it's not like the WC thinks it has to justify
itself to the Slayer. It's an ancient test, so she has to take it. Whether
she agrees with it or not.
