Has anyone else tried those "PC friendly" options. What exactly is it
suposed to do?

Stop, wait! Spike & Dru book?? Which one? "Pretty Maids All In A Row" by
any chance?? It's on my list of 'things to spend money on when I have
some spare or when I'm really depressed or when it's raining'. Cos if it
is I would love to hear what you think of it.

Hm, that's slightly disappointing... :-/

I think it's some sort of interface for the DVD-ROM extras, such
as the screensaver and wallpaper you mentioned. Waste of space as
far as I'm concerned, I always cancel it immediately, couldn't
even tell you what DVD-ROM features there are exactly on this
set, but screensaver, yeah, that sort of stuff.

Congrats man!
And guess what? I finally got the DVDs today to play on my Pioneer
stand-alone player!!!
They're great! More than great!! Great doesn't begin to describe it!!!
Magnificent picture quality (compared to VHS), instant jumping from one
(Willow) scene to the other, Joss commentary (listened for a few
minutes), French dubbing...... oh wait, scratch that. DVD is soooooo
much better than tapes. And to think that I haven't seen 10/12 eps!
Well, 8/12. Because I already watched WttHM and The Harvest. I inserted
a few hours break in between, didn't watch them back to back. It's *so*
great to see Buffy's first day at school. See her meeting Xander and
Willow! Oh my god, Willow!!! She looks fabulous. And AH has her nailed
right from the first scene. As if she hasn't been playing anyone else
for the last couple of years. And Buffy's first encounter with Giles....
I loved every minute of those eps. Like I will love every minute of the
rest of them!
Now I have to constrain myself to only watch one ep a week (Oh the
pressure! Oh the pain!). I think I will watch one every weekend. So
expect reviews around Sunday. Starting with WttHM.
Gentlemen, start your DVD players....
Bye, Patrick
oh and Arkasha, didn't check the DVD-ROM part yet...
Well i don't know how good( or bad) the picture quality of the VSH was,
but the DVD's do get a bit fuzzy when there lots of blacks. Still
better then the stuff i taped myself from TV though!
, instant jumping from one

I listen to the whole lot and it's very good.

Well, from what i've heard so far, you're not missing much

It is indeed. I ordered it in one go from Amazone so i wouldn't need to
pay more postage and such.
I'm really in conflict whether to start reading it now or wait till
christmas vacation. I know that if i start now i won't stop untill i'm
finished with it and really should spend a *whole* lot of time on my
studies, since i'm very much behind.
So far i've withstood temptation. I havn't even read the prologue!
<snip>
That makes 3 of us (although my didcs are still in the mail...damn this
waiting game!) Jon, how long did it take Amazon to deliver the things to
your door? Mine were shipped on Monday...

You're a little strange...

Hehe..welcome to the wonderful world of DVD. In your case, even more
wonderful world of Buffy on DVD.

Yes, Duh, and it seems these discs aren't even that great where image
quality is concerned. Go figure, huh?

I spit on VHS now, would never ever rent another VHS tape. Only use for
it is recording shows off the TV (gotta have Buffy and Angel on tape
until the DVD's appear, don't we?)

Terrible huh, French? But amusing. BTW, finally saw the little clip that
had you thinking that the guy who does Alyson's voice was a man; she was
Joking.

Uhh..huh? How does that make it 8/12 suddenly? What other 2 episodes did
you watch? (or had you already seen?)

That must have been some form of torture. I've even started studying for
next week Friday's exam (something I normally never do..) since I'll
probably get the Discs over the weekend, and I know I'm going to have to
watch WTTH/TH with and then without commentary tracks..

I suspect you will. When I saw season 1 eps (a fw here and there) after
I was really 'sired' (by myself, but that's off the point..), really
started watching the show as a real fan, I got a lot of that nostalgic
feel..

See? And you were saying "ah, it won't be so bad, the waiting". I was
honest about it. I know I won't be watching more than WTTH/TH before
sometime in January, since I won't be in the vicinity of a DVD player
before then :o)

He who has no Buffy DVDs
Mine were shipped 5 december and i got them 12 december, so go figure.

Mine were shipped on Sunday 3/12 and arrived on Thursday 7/12
(Amazon.co.uk). There doesn't seem to be much logic to it. I
guess things will now be increasingly becoming a bit of a
madhouse, a madhouse, with Xmas on the way.

Which clip is that? In never saw such clip, but Alyson mentioned in an
interview that a man did her voice. From what I heard on my DVD's, it's
definitely a woman in S1. Willow without Willow's voice... *SHIVER*

I had already seen most of The Pack and some of.... hey, you're right! I
had only seen The Pack up till now. But skimming (not watching) through
the other eps, I seem to remember certain scenes. They look familiar
anyway. But maybe that's a combination of seeing screenshots and reading
transcripts, of which my brain compiled a fluent sequence. Maybe in my
dreams.... Anyway, I might have seen more (bits) of Buffy than I
remembered. Probably Friday night late, repeats on BBC, zapping through
the channels (oh how ignorant I was at the time!).

There is no *real* harm in watching them back to back. But it might be
nice to keep the suspense for a few hours, or even better some days, and
then watch The Harvest. But since you've already seen them, there's not
much point in doing that.

Very, *very* nostalgic! The High School for one thing. But also the
quotes that sound very familiar to me. And how cute Buffy looked that
first season! That cute, cute smile she throws around...
> > Now I have to constrain myself to only watch one ep a week (Oh the

I was ignorant then ;o)
But I've been watching bits and parts, and realise that it takes the fun
out of it. Watching all eps in one week is feasible, but I won't have
nothing left then. OTOH, I don't mind rewatching all eps. And again. And
again. So if I suddenly find myself with some spare time (very
unlikely), I might watch more than one ep a week.

Damn! Good point. I thought it was a CD-ROM. Okay, so no screensaver for
me then. I don't mind, I already have a great AH/Willow screensaver
(also to be found on a certain CD)

Yes, you did see that clip. In fact, it's on the CD you sent me. It's
that Kilborn other clip, I think. Interview, really.

Right. Which was a joke (followed by "I didn't get a chance to hear it"
or something like that..) In that one clip <checks clip> Aly-Kilborn,
around the 2:00 minute mark. It's a joke. Check it.

Scary, huh? Did you give Angel, Buffy, Xander (oops, I mean 'Alex') a

Right.

I had that with a number of eps I thought I hadn't seen. OTOH, I more
often noticed that I hadn't fully seen a lot of the eps I thought I had
(though not the the degree Jonathan had with Passion, methinks. Lucky
bastard ;-)

True. But I don't think I've ever seen them as a full on fan, to be
honest. I'll watch back to back though. Definately. I may leave a day in
between before watching it with the commentary track though...

I most certainly hope so! Too bad Royal Mail doesn't have package
tracking...I can try to talk along, but without actually seeing the eps
that might prove a little less than fun. Possibly I'll see WTTH/TH over
the weekend, but plans are as yet undefined.

I'm guessing it's not. Should mention it on the box, I should
think..Don't think a combo is even possible, mind you. And anyway, the
extra stuff is probably less impressive than some of the material
avaliable for free via the net..

He who has a DVD Player, but no Buffy DVDs (yet.) Damn stupid Bank's
fault. Thought they didn't have my credit card had to wait 5 extra days.
Grrr.
Still not too sure whether it's a joke. IMO, she says it in earnest and
laughs along when Kilborn starts laughing (she always laughs along, the
sweetheart). I think somebody has told her Willow is dubbed with a man's
voice. But I may very well be wrong in my interpretation.

Exactly, but I stopped doing that. Just wanted to know what some scenes
looked like, and if they are similar to what I imagined reading the

That's valid as well. She also says she's never heard it herself, so...

Yeah, right. Of course, you also had to play with all the nifty buttons
on your DVD player (the important ones, like pause, slow motion, last
memory and the like..) I got over that with all them other DVDs (gonna
watch Out of Sight tomorrow. And then choose a free DVD to buy with my

Just finshed watching them great little discs (WTTH/TH back to back,
with and without commentary track. Fun!!)
Joss' Commentary is fun to listen to, some little jabs at other movies
(You've got stick to the rules, you can't suddenly have Stephen Dorf
walk out in sunscreen..hehehe..) and the like. Noticed two little
things, though, both in TH (I think..) Scene were Buffy enters the
tunnels (going to save Jessie) there's a little white blip on screen.
Looks like a dirty frame in the negative or something. Then there's some
odd lighting going on in the Cordy scene at the bronze, where the
cordettes get up to go down and dance..can be explained away as a
lighting change, but it's sort of visible.

They finally arrived then. Good for you.
My X-Files Season 2 box finally arrived today from Amazon.com,
however, no luck with customs, I had to pay 45 peek to the
postman. It seems things have changed since I last ordered from
them. Marking as gift did not help. And what's worse, the package
had been carelessly opened by customs, resulting in a nice deep
knife scratch right accross the front of the box! Can you believe
it?! It's a madhouse, I tell you, a madhouse! I mean, why do they
have to open the damn thing at all? The freaking value is stated
on the outside, for their very convenience. Shees!

Really? That sucks...

Bizarre, that...gotta check that out before I order anything from
Amazon.com, I guess. I've never had problems with it before. Then again,
I tend to make sure that my shipping adress and my billing adress are
different (ie, let my dad buy it and have it shipped to me or
something.) I thought they couldn't tax gifts...and DVD BoxOffice was
too expensive?

Because customs people tend to be idiots?

Sure thing:
Little white thingy in frame (its roughly one quarter of the screen over
from the left and a third of the way down. More or less.). Doesn't look
like a digital artefact to me:
Track 2, Chapter 5 (right at the beginning of it), time index 14:28
(roughly. Go into slo-mo and it should be clear, although I saw it
anyway.)
Odd lighting change bit, when Camera has pulled back and the cordettes
head for the stairs:
Track 2, Chapter 10, Time: 31:10. It just looks a little odd to me, more
than anything else.
Damn. Noticed another teeny tiny blip (it could be artefacts, damned if
I know..its probably also partly because I'm sitting right next to the
screen right now.) at the beginning of chapter 10, on the bouncer guy's
right shoulder, roughly.) Hmmm...you oh wise person can possibly tell me
if I'm looking at a film artefact or a digital encoding artefact. We all
know that this isn't the perfect set of discs where image quality is
concerned. Still very, very, very nice stuff...

Kind of drives the price up. Although, if I just pretend this
happend to me on the S1 set, instead of now on the S2, the
difference in exchange rate between now and last May probably
makes the total cost come to the same. Eh... and my point is...?

Well actually, no, in hindsight I probably should have just
ordered there. Would have been cheaper, esp. with the pesky tax
thing. The reason I didn't was really just because I was afraid
of their packaging not being able to get the thing to me in mint
condition, after receiving things like the Jurassic Park 2-pack
and Toy Story Ulitimate Toy Box 3-pack with bashed corners, the
usually just use jiffy bags, which are fine for single discs, but
not so for these box things. I'd been very pleased with
Amazon.com's packaging of my X-Files S1 set. Basically nothing
could happen to the thing. They had it tightly strapped with
plastic onto this piece of cardboard a couple of inches wider
than the box on all four sides, that then placed inside a large
cardboard box which fitted the piece of cardboard just nicely,
and a healthy portion of airbag thingies for extra safety. It was
perfect, and back then, it sailed though customs without a care
in the world. They used the same commendable packaging stategy
this time round, as I hoped and expected, but unfortunately that
was made kind of moot by this knife-wielding customs guy now
wasn't it... :-|

You mean contact customs? Or Amazon? The former's fault, of
course, but I don't really see that flying. Can't really be
bothered to try and start a conversation with them over this.
Amazon may well be sympathetic, although it is not their fault,
but I'd probably have to send the thing back first, etc. Can't
really be bothered. I could try e-mailing them and see what they
say.
It's really just this horizontal scratch across the front of the
box, about a quarter of the way up. Only someone as anal as me
would actually be bothered with it. Besides, we talking about the
outer sheath, which to be quite honest, on the S1 set, I'd just
layed aside in the cupboard somewhere and never really used or
looked at, 'cause it was too much hassle to get it on an off
every time you wanted to take a disc out. Even insides, without
the sheath, are a bit of a pain to work with. It's like the Buffy
set, except instead of folding out into a 3-disc cross shape, it
folds out into one long horizontal line of seven discs. You
really need a large flat surface to do it on, and the cardboard
starts to wear pretty quickly, although it has been reinforced on
this S2 set, stonger cardboard, and a shiny protective layer.
Still, it would be far more practical just to ditch the packaging
and source 7 standard DVD or even CD boxes to store your discs
in. BUT I DIGRESS!!!

[checks] Check. Looks like a piece of dirt on the film. The fact
that it's white rather than black indicates that... well I don't
really know what that indicates, but a clever person would be
able to tell you what sort of stage that means it occured at,
i.e. in the camera, or later on at the transfer to tape stage or
whatever.

Whoa. Good call. That does look wierd. I'm trying to figure out
if it can be as a light or lights suddenly turning on on the set
or if it is simply a sudden change of brightness in the actual
transfer. I'm leaning towards the latter.

Hmm, another good call, this one is considereably smaller, I
doubt I'd ever have noticed it myself, but it looks like another
scratch / speck of dirt on the film, not a digital artefact.
