Please, don't forget to put a [French] warning in your header next time.
Thank you.

Merci de ne pas oublier de placer une balise [French] au début du
titre de votre message, la prochaine fois.

I'm amazed you can actually muster up the courage and patience to post
replies like this. By now, I'm forcing myself to sit on my hands each time
one of those new French kids shows up.

<turning to George> Please, pleasepleaseplease, George, can we make this a
English-language-only newsgroup? PUHLEASE? Yes, I know about those poor
Europeans that don't talk English. But *all* of them are French! And I must
say I never had any particular problems with French people until they
flooded this ng. But by now... <clenches jaw and fists> ... by now I'm
certain that it's *wrong* to allow different languages. It doesn't work. A
newsgroup should be a *group* of people, and a *group* should talk the same
language. And if the French refuse to do so, fine. I don't care shit if they
leave. I suppose we already lost quite a few Brits due to the French
(especially since the Millennium disaster, the *French* were responsible for
that giant wheel!), and if it stays like this, that is, two out of three
messages are in French, with or without header, well, then I'm leaving as
well.

Yeah, that's black mail for you. :))))

Indeed, but do you *really* think that it will matter *anything* if I would
change the FAQ this instant to change this group to an english only group. There
are a few facts to consider here:

1) The new french people haven't read the FAQ yet, so they don't use a header
warning. If the FAQ now stated "only english posts allowed" it would not make
any difference.

2) We use the language rules to post in dutch and you've seen a few disasters in
the past with people trying to write in english when they really couldn't.

3) It goes to the heart of the idea behind this newsgroup to now only allow
single language posting. I agree that the french are currently abusing the
language rule, but to totally ban all other languages just can't be the wisest
course of action.

4) We have no means whatsoever to enforce the FAQ on this group. This group is a
public place and everyone can post even if they disregard the FAQ completly. If
we changed the main language this would not change that fact.

The idea I have to at least outlaw what the french are doing in the FAQ (even
though I do not think that it will make any difference) is to have another part
to the language rule. One can not post in their own language at all times. New
posters have to at least consider the majority of a group that want to discuss
things together. If people are not willing to join the exsisting group of
posters in a newsgroup they should go somewhere else.

Another idea is to make a new french buffy group like alt.buffy.europe.french or
something similar. I personally do not have the time to go through the time
consuming prosess of creating a new group etc (I'm way to busy at the
university). But if anyone now feels like they could do it : please do so....

Finally, Andrea, please don't leave. You were one of the first people to start
posting in the group (even though that was under a different name <g>) and I for
one allways apreciate your postings. I hope you don't let these french posts
drive you away....

Please, it's not that I want to defend French people (as I'm French),
because I also think they should not forget to put "[french] warnings" but
this is a European NG, not an Engish one, and people are free to write in
the language they want. If you want to speak Engllish, then go to an English
NG, and if it doesn't exist, create one, I'm sure a lot of people as
tolerant as you will be glad to join it.
Please, don't blame French because they can't speak English, cause I don't
know a lot of American, English[...] people who talk any language but
English.
Actually, most of the non-English messages here are Germans, and I don't
care, I just don't read them, so why wouldn't you do the same?

There is already a french speaking Buffy group, with people from
France, Belgium, Switzerland and sometimes Québec :

If you want to speak french, then create a French newsgroup

I didn't say I wanted to speak French, and 90% of my postings are in
English, I just said that if some people want to write in French, they can
as it is a "European NG", and so far, English is not the European official
language...
I agree with the fact that if some people only want to write in French and
don't write to the others, they should create a French NG; but if sometimes
they post in French, who cares?
Ok, now that's it, this story is driving me mad, I hope it won't have
repercussions on the NG, cause it would be a shame. Remember the NG is about
BtVS, not about language war...

Salut,

Hi,
As you're a beginner (that's what she means when she says "je suis
novice..."), we'll forgive you, but you should put [French] warnings at the
headers of your message if you don't want to start a war in this NG (at the
moment, the problem of the different european language is quite hot).
Anyway, it's ok to talk with you about Buffy, if you want.

Sonia
