What can I say? As a Willow fan I got more than I ever dreamed about. She
looked as yummy as she did in Halloween. We already knew she can look sexy,
now we know she can act sexy too. BARK!
Before I get to the good parts, let's do the bad ones first (yes, this
excellent episode had it's weaknesses). The start was rather silly, with
Buffy being strangled by some Swamp Thing, which came straight from the set
of some cheap b-movie. Too strong for Buffy to fight with her bare hands,
but a few jabs with a knife (or a nerf) kills it instantly. The discussion
with Xander placing the blame on Cordy and Oz and Willow worrying about
being close with Oz again, it just didn't feel natural, not sincere.
When Cordy was ridiculed by the former Cordettes, that didn't feel good too.
I mean, it's to be expected, especially after the treatment they got by
Cordy. But I find it hard to believe she would let them walk all over her
like that.
The return of the Master was a nice surprise, but his factory plans were
kinda ridiculous. I even wonder if it would make it so much easier for
vampires to get their daily dose of blood. And "with all do respect boss,
the fun would be the eating". Silly idea, forced into the story to act as
some sort of Big Evil Plan. And I thought the Master acted kind of funny. I
thought he was supposed to turn into a bat, but it seems he's turning into a
whining sissy. Mind you, this is the first time I've ever seen him. So was
he always like that?
Enough with the complaining! Let's get to the good parts.
Xander and Willow kicked ass as vampires. They looked so cool in the Leather
Things, and Xander even managed to act cool. Willow and Xander were made for
each other? Naah! VampWillow and VampXander, now there's a match made in
heaven (or more likely, in hell). They appeared to be the Master's pets, so
I guess they rule as vampires. And how about VampWillow's leisure
activities? The words 'can I have a puppy, please?' will never have the same
meaning again. Ironic that she applies Angelus-like methods on Angel
himself. I can see a match (yes, I'm anticipating the uncut Friday night
version as Wednesday's version was brutely mutilated).
Angel was a nice detail. He went to Sunnydale to help Buffy, like we learnt
in Becoming. But then she never came. See? Things turn bad when they do get
together, and things turn bad when they don't ;o)
Buffy was even more kick-ass than usual, even wearing army boots. But I
don't think she would live very long the way she handled her slayer duties.
She was killed rather easy by Siss... err I mean the Master though.
I was a bit puzzled by the amulet thing though. First Anyanka tried to push
Cordy into making a wish without giving her the amulet. Then she gave her
the amulet, and Cordy made a wish. Later Giles takes the amulet from Cordy,
and summons Anyanka. Then Anyanka appears, wearing the amulet. If this
amulet is Anyanka's power source, why does she give it away? And if she
apparently can get a new one, why is it so bad when one is destroyed?
As much as I am a fool for Willow, I loved the way Oz told her to back off.
Because he was absolutely right. But I think he wil forgive Willow her
mistake eventually. Who could resist a Willow begging for forgiveness? Cordy
OTOH is really over Xander. Can't see the two of them ever getting together
again. I even wonder if Xander would want that. That's the difference:
between Willow and Oz it was real love, between Xander and Cordy it was....
well let's just say temporary insanity.
The reality shifting thing was done nicely IMO. Without Buffy, the Master
would have risen in S1, and the rest follows naturally. I wonder if Willow
and Xander were part of the White Hats before they got vamped. But I don't
think so, with Giles referring to them as 'vicious disciples'. What strikes
me as odd in the alternate reality is the way people deal with the vampire
situation. I assume that it's no longer a secret that vampires are the cause
of all the deaths. So why don't the start a military operation to whipe out
these bloodsuckers? I'm thinking flame-throwers here. Or watercannons filled
with holy water. Vampires are strong and dangerous, but relatively easy to
kill when sufficient firepower is used.
Typing away like this, I notice there are quite a lot of complaints to be
made about this ep. But I love it anyway. Because the alternate universe
thing is a great idea and fun to take a look in. And because, well, Willow
just looks *great* in leather ;o)

You are right, Sadistic! A really different side of her.

yeah, she was a bit sloppy, but maybe you get that way when the world
is swarmed with vamps and all. Or she would be better off with Giles as
her watcher.

Yeah, those little continiuity errors are really annoying.

Well, according to Xander's behavaur, he want's het back, but I don't
think she will ever wan't him back (or maybe she does)

Well, Maybe, the people were ignorant at first, and saw it when it was
too late. but a military op would be a logical choice, especially for
the US, they handle everything with weapons.

Before you buy.
Wasn't it ironic, Vamp Willow, killed by Oz? I'm sure that was no
coincidence.
So Friday-night we will see Angel brutely mutilated, I suppose. Do I want to
see that and enjoy that as well? (Knowing that at the same time these things
happen in reality? I'll always have a very double feeling about these kind
of scenes)

Sure. I mean, for me, the reason I keep bitching about the BBC
censorship has nothing to do with "Damn, now we don't get to see the
nice violent gory bits, they're the best parts, bummer." That's not
the point at all. It's simply that I want to see the artists'
original intention in it's entirety, without some BBC or whatever
kind of third party modifying that in the way they think is best for
me.
I can even understand how people feel that 6.50pm is too early in
the evening for this stuff to be on national television. I say don't
show it then.
I remember in the early days of SBS6, they used to cut `boring',
what they thought were `unessential' bits of scenes out of episodes
of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, or cut up feature films pretty
heavily just to fit them in the timeslot they wanted and to show
more advertisements. This was not cutting for violence, but it is
just as unacceptable to me.

Well, for me it is not so bad. I can prepare myself to the nice violent gory
parts in the childrens' version so that I will be less shocked on friday
adults' version and I realise that is not the intention of the writers :-)

Don't get over-excited. That Willow-torturing-Angel scene is
rather childish and pointless. Nice for adolescent
Willow-worshippers who like to drool over a kinky sex scene. It
is nothing like the scene with Drusilla torturing Angel, which
is among the best scenes of Buffy ever.

Spike, let me have him. Hmm? Until the moon.

And is that related to the past in some way? A revenge for what he has all
done to her? Or just being a vampire who likes torturing?

You mean Drusilla torturing Angel? Just getting even for what he
did to her family. Although, she tortured Angel, but welcomed
back Angelus with open arms. I don't really get it, but then,
Drusilla is a bit twisted. Thanks to Angelus. (Or perhaps the
script-writers messed up.)

IMO, it's merely meant to show exactly *how* bad Willow has turned. So it's
not 'pointless'. Childish, hm, dunno. I rather like the famous 'bark'-line,
but I suppose all they've cut were the matches and the screaming? In that
case, you've seen the best bits already. :))
Nice for adolescent

Mm. Yes. :)
I also thought Drusilla torturing Giles was pretty good. :))

Well, it is the coolest scene from the ep.
Don't tell me you miss the violent parts. But you're right, it's wrong
that you are denied some parts.

Well, the BBC thinks that alot, I mean, on Net5, they showed it on 18:10

Yeah, that's wrong! No good!
Yes, the scene where Dru is torturing Angel is definitely much more powerful
than the one where VampWillow is having the pleasure. That's as it should
be, since Angel and Dru go way back and VampWillow is just torturing Angel
for pleasure. But I wouldn't call it pointless: it shows that VampWillow is
very cruel, if not to sophisticated
