BtVS and Angel are both going into their spring repeat season, as are
most other shows. The television season here runs from September to
May, roughly 36 weeks, but most shows only air 22 episodes per season.
Hence the need for periodic repeats during the season. Both will
still be on the air, and both do their repeats at the same time.
There will probably be only one new episode in March, and one in
April, then a final four in a row in May. The longest repeat period
that Buffy has had is 7 weeks, but we shouldn't have more than 3
repeats in a row this season, if I've calculated it right. I have no
idea how this will affect the airing schedule in the UK (are Sky
showing Season 4, or are they still in 3?), but the Aussies should be
able to catch up. Assuming they aren't switched to football or
something.

Not off the air, just showing a run of reruns, as you probably realize
from your second question.

It's just a WB network thing, although the Canadian networks that
carry Buffy usually follow the same pattern (but don't have to). The
WB has aired 16 new eps (over the last 22 weeks) this season, and have
6 more new eps to air (over the next 12 to 13 weeks). Since, from
what we've been hearing spoilerwise, it looks like they'll air the
last 5 eps consecutively at the end of the season (two 2-parters, with
crossoveriness with "Angel", and a final 'coda' ep afterward), that
means we'll be getting 1 new ep, and 7 or 8 reruns, in March and
April.
Britain will probably have an exciting Snooker tournament they need to
cover, which will keep them from catching up in March/April.
I wonder if they actually get better ratings/number of viewers with
snooker as opposed to Buffy...I mean, SNOOKER fer chrissake! And don't
forget the Olympics in the summer ;-)
