We are nearing the end of this season and things are intensifying. Adam
is working on his masterplan to......eeeuuhhh...well we will find out soon
enough. It seems pretty interesting and I'm looking forward of finding
out what it is. I won't say again that this story development started way
too late in the season. And there is trouble in paradise. Our happy
bunch, the Scoobygang isn't very happy anymore. At first I thought that it
was a bit too easy the way Spike managed to turn them against each other but
after some thought it did make sense. All he did was stir up all those bad
feelings and unhappiness that had been simmering for a long time.
Giles and Xander feel useless and unappreciated. Not without reason
though, in fact they *are* more or less useless. How much have they
contributed to the ongoing war against evil ? Not very much. (Did I
like this story development during this season, btw ? Nope, but that has
been discussed earlier so I won't go into that again). You can really
watch Giles change. In the old days he would never have been singing or
drinking.
Willow misses spending time with her best friend. Buffy and her aren't
spending much time with each other anymore. She feels also like Buffy no
longer needs her. And on top of that she thinks that Buffy disapproves of
her new found relationship with Tara and has been talking about it with
others behind her back.
So this Yoko stuff turns out to be quite good. (Funny thing is that one of
the main reasons why I like S4 less than previous Seasons is the very thing
that is being addressed in a large part of this ep. Namely that the
scoobygang isn't much of a *gang* anymore). It was a real joy to see
Spike being his evil self again. During a lot of previous eps it felt
like he walked around with his trousers around his ankles. Well, in last
week's ep and this one he has finally pulled them up. The scenes involving
Adam and Spike were the most interesting of this ep.
The way the others finally found out about Tara and Willow was very
disappointing to say the least. It just got mentioned and immediately got
buried under a lot of other issues. Somehow I think that not much will be
said in future eps as well. Too bad, I was hoping for a bit more
attention. I was curious about the reactions of Xander and Anya, for
instance. Or Tara and Anya could have said something about the issue to
each other instead of that meaningless dribble about the tiles.
Buffy and Riley. I can't believe Buffy left out the pelvis action in her
explanation of her relationship with Angel. "She has told me everything",
Riley said to Xander. Yeah right ! That girl just never learns. And
than later on she asked Riley if she has ever given him any reason not to
trust her. He said no but in fact he should have mentioned the fact that
she lied to him about such an unimportant detail. He's not an idiot, he
knows that she has slept with others, so lying about it is worse than the
fact itself. Something that felt very unrealistic was the fact that both
didn't mind going back to Buffy's room. This will be the first place the
police or the military will search for those two criminals. Speaking of
which, why isn't there a SWAT team waiting or at least some MP's ? After
all both Buffy and Riley broke the law so why doesn't the police seem
alerted. To keep the Initiative a secret ? Bull ! The commander of the
I could have asked Washington for a company of military police without
having to explain the I to those men or anybody else.
The whole Angel thing in this ep felt as if it was added afterwards to fill
some time. Imho it was unnecessary and didn't add anything to the story
line. Also I felt frustrated again that I didn't tape and keep those to
relevant "Angel" eps. They felt more like BtVS eps from S2 or S3 than eps
from another series. I wonder what BtVS viewers who don't watch "Angel",
thought of this ep. A lot of things in this ep will be a mystery to those
people. This isn't really a good thing. Maybe Joss went a bit overboard
with this cross over thing.
The final moment of the ep was a surprise. Adam had stated earlier in the
season that he and Riley are two of a kind. Both sons of prof. Walsh.
Do they really have a connection ? Or is Adam the only one that thinks so.
Has he killed forrest intentionally to draw Riley to him ? We'll find out
next week.
It appears that I can recall more bad things than good about this ep. So
did I like it or not ? I think I have to watch it again to answer that.
I will tomorrow (like always).
Bye, Rob
I wondered that myself. The Initiative is having their hands full as it
is. I think retrieving Riley has low priority at the moment. McNamara
could ask for back-up, but somehow I think he doesn't want to ask for
help. He told his superior that Buffy is just a girl, while we know from
NMR he knows better than that. He just doesn't want to admit that it's
growing over his head.

Adam killed Forrest because he kills all human beings around him.
Forrest found Adam by chance. I took it that Riley went to Adam to get
revenge. On the other hand: how did Riley know where to look for Adam?
Interesting (I can't believe I'm saying that about an event involving
Riley).

I have to say that after watching the ep a second time I know for shure that
I really do like it. Maybe because you know what's going to happen and
you are not hindered by stuff you hope for or expect. I really enjoyed
myself this second time.

Most all living things, and the occasional Demon as well, in fact ;-)

Shocking, actually..are you sure you're feeling alright?
I don't think it has anything to do with revenge..its more sinister than
that, methinks. Riley could've found out where Riley died from tI if he
wasn't a deserter, since Forrest probably radioed it in to base, but
other than that...I'm guessing chip or something.
Remember Riley isn't an ordinary soldierboy; there's a little more to
it, judging from Adam's earlier spiel (and I'm going to assume it's
true, Adam doesn't lie much.) and the cut-off comment from the pentagon
(or something) head honcho. That, and the whole 'son' thing, anyway.

Probably going to tackle the Angel thread tomorrow. Tired I am.
