Wow! I just wanted to drop in quickly and say I luuuuuuved this ep! It
was fast, it was emotional, there were a few interesting surprises...
I was on the edge of my seat.
Loved the way Riley's friends went all out to make him realise he's
got a major crush on Buffy... such subtlety! :-)
And then Riley and the 'bitch lady from hell' turn out to be the demon
hunters (rogue or otherwise)! That was quite a surprise, I'd never
have guessed. Wonder what goes on in that lab!
The Spike thing was cool. Hadn't seen too much of him yet (I'm a Buffy
newbie) so it was cool to see a bit more of him and I imagine he's
here to stay since he's now in the opening credits! I was rotfl during
that scene where he tried to bite Willow but couldn't. And Willow's
reaction, making us wonder if this was about biting or... ;-))
Of course, we were feeling very sorry for Willow and her loss...
wonder if we'll ever see Oz again (don't tell me!!)
Ah, it's Star Trek time so I'd better be off. Love to read what
everyone else thought of this episode... oh no! the beep-lady is just
telling me there's no Star Trek :-((( Now what am I supposed to do??

Spike: I don't understand. This sort of thing's never happened to me
before.
Willow: Maybe you were nervous.
Spike: I felt all right when I started. Let's try again.

I liked this ep very much! Promising for the rest of this season
(which I for once haven't yet seen!).
Finally some disclosure about those commando dudes. And Riley
kicking the hell out of Buffy, and that while he was blinded by
those night vision goggles. I wonder if the're gonna team
up...probably yep!
Is Ozz ever coming back? He's not in the opening credits... that
would really suck!

Indeed. I was expecting quite a bit of badness because I was spoiled
(knew, vaguely, what the initiative was and that Riley and Walsh (aka
EBMOD) part of it...) I liked it this ep, but it could get very silly
very fast if they aren't careful with it..
> Loved the way Riley's friends went all out to make him realise he's

Subtlety and pretty funny as well: "I guess I'm the last to know."
Overall an ep with a lot of laughs.

Nice little bit of irony used there, Rileys little "Regular Joe by day,
Demon Hunter by night.." thing ;-) No Rogues here though! Big
military-like organization with implantation of thingys to prevent vamps
from harming living creatures (according to the tiny snippet we've
gotten so far...)

Sex? :-) Pretty funny impotence/biting parallel thing going on
there..was a favorite scene. I wasn't spoiled about the 'de-fanging' of
Spike, so I was seriously wondering how Willow would get out of that
little uncomfortable situation. Was wondering why she didn't stake him
with a levitating pencil...Oh, right, he's a season regular now ;-)
Mixed feelings about Spike in this ep: He was really great, BUT, now
he's sort of not quite so, erm, evil and threatening anymore (despite
what Willow says ;-) I like him all evil and threatening a lot. Like him
like this too, but the Big Evil Mode[tm] Spike is the one we've grown to
love. Not that I've seen him as a particularly serious threat since,
well, Whats my Line pt2. but anyway..Not sure I like friendly quite so
much.
> Of course, we were feeling very sorry for Willow and her loss...

I hope so, at some point (and I won't tell you the answer ;-) could be
another source for big drama, given other spoilers I've seen (can't help
em sometimes..not too bad here, UMTB is pretty terrible..) If you know,
you know what I mean ;-)
> Ah, it's Star Trek time so I'd better be off. Love to read what

I KNOW!!!! Thats 2 eps of ST today! First, RTL5 decides it'll continue
the hours and hours of broadcasting about Enschede, and cancel DS9 (but
not, of course a crap show like 'Bij Ron of Andre' or whatever its
called...No! Cancel the GOOD show..) Then the Beeb cancel VOY and shows
motor boke racing..grrrr...screwed up my evening's planning.
One more thing that caught me off guard: the Dawsons Creek repeat: was
that a repeat from Wednesday? If so, then I guess I missed it (my memory
is going...) Anyway, Buffy sorta made up for it..hope Angel is up to par
tomorrow ;-)

Possibly promising. I can see how the Initiative thing can be used well
or completely misused and turned very, very silly.

Hmm...not sure about Riley really kicking the hell out of Buffy. They
kinda kicked the hell out of each other, though he did get a few good
hits in. IMHO, he should have been down and out cold after that
pummeling. He's merely human, even though he's a big, strong human ;-)
Other minor detail: If someone flares and you're wearing night vision
goggles, you could very well end up blind (if I'm not mistaken)

Won't tell, that would be a spoiler. ;-) He's no longer a season regular
though.

Indeed, but then again, the story line of s3 (with the mayor) had some
silliness potential as well. Very worying that that potential got out in the
last few eps.....ah well let's just trust joss there ;-)

Indeed. Laughs and new story lines. Still, I can't say I'm as excited as
Saskia seemed to be. Guess it's that "Buffy's still one of the best shows on
tv, but it's slipped since s2" thing which is clouding my judgement. It
isn't clouding saskia's though......
Still not as good a WaH, but definatly rewatch worthy (and about
(re)watching....any words on those tapes, mattia? I really want to speed
things up after next week ;-))

Precisely. The initiative still has a weird feeling to it though. Hope
they'll explain.......

I *know* what you mean. Could get very painfull that. Wonderinng when we're
finally going to meet the object of painfullness though [1] .......

I *know* very annoying. Allways watch DS9 on sunday..damnit!!

Ok, don't mind them cancelling VOY all that much [ducks].........

Still haven't seen all those eps, but i guess I'll find a stressed out
Dawson's Creeck guy [2] at the uni today, so if it *was* a new one, I'll
tell you :-)

See Ya,
George
[1] ok, forget this bit of dialogue between me and mattia. Forget it *now*
;-)
[2] Again, never mind ;-)
Really only the very last ep, if you ask me..lets hope it doesn't get
sillier than that. In Joss we Trust (I guess...;-)

Not having seen most of S2 (I believe she saw becoming, but not much
else..am I right?) might do that. I've sorta gotten over that (a little)
since I figure its gonna be damn near impossible to match S2 (But Joss,
if you read this (yeah, right..;) feel free to prove me very, very
wrong! :-)

Well, tape (singular, 3 Bs, and that one A..) should be here any day
now..was posted on Wednesday, shou.dn't take much longer. I'll e-mail ya
when I get them in, and we can finalize. Just checking: 23, right?)[see

I'd wager sooner rather than later...we're up to ep 8 already next week
(and then who knows...:-)[1]

Totally. DS9 is the *GOOD* show too!

OK, agree it annoyed me less (like it, not as much as DS9 tho..) but it
WAS the second ST show. Generally watch the last 2/3ds of it since it
overlaps with Buffy...there, you now see where my priorities lie ;-)

Hmm..me thinking I only missed the last 10 minutes (which is what I
caught...a phone call came in on wednesday, I believe..) I shall see in
2 days what the stat is on that..

measure ;-) and we'll have another bunch of fun (I hope) threads going.

Same here. Came in towards the end of S2, so assuming it's as good
as everybody says it is (I don't doubt it), I still have that to
look forward to, whenever someone decides to show reruns again (or
it gets released on DVD, whichever comes first ;-)). In a way, I get
to save the best for last, well, later at least.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Phew....need my weekly shot of overscripted teenage Angst ;-) BTW, read
that Roswell has been picked up for a second season, I'll try to get a
confirm on that too (was in danger of being cancelled..) Hmmm...wonder
how many more seasons Buffy will have, given that their contracts
(regulars) are for a 5 year show..No, must not think of these overy
depressing things. Not called for. Must stop that! Well, at least we'll
have Angel (or will we?!?!?!?!?!?!?) There, enough panic attacking for
today :-p
Mattia
Damn, now its all stuck in my head..
The HORROR, THE HORROR! hehe..
Seriously, S2 is is great, as is season 1. In fact, they are a lot more
fun to see now that you know what the characters have turned in to; fun
game of spot the changes and for some of us, that nostalgic feeling ;-)
On the good news front, though not exactly confirmed on any web site
I've seen, is a message in the french buffy NG:
According to them, a press release from 20th Century Fox dated 12 May
2000 contains the following (roughly): Buffy the Vampire Slayer S1 will
be released on DVD as a season boxed set, with some nice extas, for both
R1 and R2, early 2001. Good news in that it seems to be a little more
official (still trying to dig up press release, I'll get back here if I
find it..) but its still a loooong wait (given that by that time S1-S3
will all be avliable on Video Cassette...which is probably the point ;-)

Thanks guys :-) I'm glad you noticed me (and my first initiative thread
of the day) in between all those other threads ... gee, if we had this
many Star Trek threads in that other newsgroup, then the complainers
would *really* have something to complain about :-)))
By the way, is off-topic still allowed here? In which case I might want
to take refuge here now and then.....

Don't think they can work together. Riley is too much into army-discipline,
following and giving orders. Buffy wants to do things her way (she hardly
even listens to Giles anymore), sometimes willing to take big risks. She
wouldn't take orders from Riley or the Initiative. And Riley won't take her
orders too (he's too 'teutonic').
Bye, Patrick
Saskia, congratulations on your very succesful first thread. So tell us
Saskia:
1) When did you decide to start your first thread?
2) Were you nervous?
3) How do feel about your first thread? Are you satisfied with the result?
4) Will we be seeing any more threads from you in the future?
5) Do you think you will ever start an OT thread?
6) With the annual Thread Awards coming up, what do you think about your
chances?
Well Saskia, thank you for answering these questions and we hope to hear
more from you in the future.
That was the lovely Saskia, very excited after starting her first thread,
which yielded enthousiastic responses from our readers.
For a.b.e, I'm Patrick.

[OT] is fine as long as you tag it as such, and as long as nobody
bitches and moans too much about it (haven't seen it happen...witness

Hehe! YES! I have successfully named someone. I feel all proud ;-) The
Big Ducker[tm] sounds a little odd, I agree..
Mattia
Wordy Poster Extraordinaire[tm]
Amplifier God[tm] (yes, I got that one in theis NG...;-)
Yeah, and then there's Roswell, which is more of the same with a touch
of SciFi..

Well, if it keeps going well and the regulars all want to stay, Joss has
said he will do more. My (optimistic) bet is on more. But hey, even if
not (please no) we have at least erm...37 more eps? Damn, thats
depressing me s'more..:-p
Mattia
Still stuck there...gotta go watch Angel to distract myself..

Indeed. I *know* s2 is near impossible to top, for *any* tv show. But still, once
you've seen that it is in fact possible to have TV *that* good, you really want to
keep seeing that. Ah well....still enjoying myself heaps :-)

to take this thread to email ;-)
Very weird stuff, but my newsreader didn't get P@tricks's original
message so I'll answer this one if you don't mind... which I'm sure
you won't

Well, I had been thinking about it for a few weeks, but up till then I
could not find the courage. Until this little voice inside of me kept
saying 'you can do it! you can do it!' So I did. And besides, I knew
that, once the regulars in this group had realised the Buffy episode
had ended there would be no stopping them.

Hmm, yes, let's see ... : almost 30 postings in my thread. Well, let's
just say it was a nice start and there is certainly room for
improvement.

information about future projects.

I'm afraid my previous answer applies here as well. Although I do
admit to have positive feelings about my future here!

The competition is tough this time. I'm really not in it for the
award. I have seen some excellent contributions from people with much
more experience, whom I admire enormously. So I will not be surprised
if f.i. Mattia, Jonathan, George, Peter, P@atrick or Zwaaneveld get
this one. Maybe next year.

Well, thank you P@atrick for having me. It's been a pleasure. If you
check with my assistant on your way out, she will give you a copy of
my autobiography and a signed photograph.

Ah, that was Jonathan's question if I'm not mistaken... well Jonathan
you see, personally I feel that DVD is grossly overrated, qualitywise
and otherwise, so - although we have not definitely decided *yet* - we
are considering VIDEO!

Well, I'd say its pretty good. The only better ones I remeber (for an
ep) are Beer bad, because everyone hated it, and OT the movie one, which
was, for our standards, huge. Don't try comparing it to nksf+f for lenth
though ;-)

Well, this thread does indicate a propensity toward OT posts, so there
is hope yet. However the relative newness of thread starting here may
well be an inhibiting factor in the early stages..

Hmmm..Momentarily I would say P@trick and George have good leads (I
don't start threads much, but I contribute a lot. Started starting them
though recently, I'll see if I continue ;-) Only counting the past few
weeks though, in the little less recent past all of the named have been
busy..

Ouch, what a dissapointing answer. I can't believe you people are
gonna stick your head in the sand over this one. Don't you know that
even Steven Spielberg is finally showing support for the DVD format,
with Jaws coming this summer and Jurrasic Park and its sequel to
follow in the autumn, and even George Lucas has given in, and after
the overwhelming succes of the Star Wars on DVD Campaign, he is now
set to release The Phantom Menace on DVD in less then a year's time.
Well, you kan kiss goodbye to my twenty bucks then. Don't get me
wrong, your thread was nice, but there are plenty of other good
movies coming out on DVD in the meantime so don't think for a moment
that I'm going to loose any sleep over this.
Grmbl.

*blush* aww..shucks...
and yes, almost everything gets replied to. Got kinda tired of the

Yeah, I know, had trouble finding space for it in the sig that time,
what with all those quotes and multi-line parenthetically nested
qualifications to my name and all... Think I'll save my title for
those times when I've nothing better to throw in ;-)
You could spoil here ;-)
> Other minor detail: If someone flares and you're wearing night vision

Simply not possible. Those thingies are protected. They can't give more
output than a spec. lvl. so eyes could hurt a little but never be damaged
(it's like looking into a flashlight (pocketsize). Very annoying, but
nowhere nearly dangerous.) Very well possible though (and with flashers even
likely) the goggles themselves are ruined.

Who said anything about flamewars? Where did I say I wanted one? Eh?
Eh? Seemss I'm running circles around your logic, doesn't it.

I see only one viable course of action for this thread.

P.S. Mattia, when you reply to this message, could you do me a
favour and invoke Godwin's Law? Thanks, Jon.

Spike) is signed on for S5. Nothing beyond that is fixed, though.

HITLER?
Aaah, you mean HIT HER! (a typo is easily made in the heat of a flamewar)
Now that's not good behavior starting to hit people when you're lost for
words. Why didn't you just say you'd rather watch a DVD with a documentary
on 'the rise and fall of the nazi empire' than watch a DVD about Saskia
threads. That would have ended it.
Bye, Patrick
Kids these days.... ;o)

The very unveiling autobio is still available on amazon.com.
And Saskia, thanks for the inscription :o)

OK, OK....I'll quite torturing you all. (And I'll stop teasing
Jonatahn..couldn't keep doing that for TOO long...this time ;-)
I HEREBY INVOKE GODWINS LAW[1] (and make the title EVEN longer...) and
declare (with some terpidation, as I side with Jonahan on the DVD
issue...but fair is fair..)
SASKIA to be the WINNER of this argument
(what? Not a competition you say? Then pray explain all the cheering!!!)
Jonathan, sorry bout that ;-)
I hereby declare this thread[2] TERMINATED (and beware thee who darest
answer this post!!)

Supreme Enforcer of Law and Order in a.b.e (well, for about 3 minutes,
anyway..)
[1] WHAT!!!!! You do not KNOW of the almightly law that rules us (well,
AFAIK, its the first time its been applied here..;-)
[2]Well, this specific part of the thread, I'm being a little flexible
with interpretation here ;-)
Nice try. Won't work THIS time...grabbing for straws here, pal;-)
Mattia
Oi! don't you go putting any weird ideas in his brain...!! That's
dangerous! (for me)
Saskia

Now now, don't get all petty and childish (although those are very
endearing traits...look at me! :-p )

Right..and thats why I'm going to let this post slide, applying [2] (see
above) again..Don't do it again though! ;-)
Mattia
Self-Appointed Law and Order Guy, so I, of course, can flaunt that
thread ending rule and Butt in if I feel like it. ;-)
hehe..er, its late. I meant to say thread[2] ;-)

Mattia
Feeling a little shamed right now
Don't worry. Weird ideas are not the only things I put in his brain. While I
was at it.... remember Spike's chip?
He's harmless. Or at least he won't bite you.
Bye, Patrick
But can we just pretend until the truth comes out that Riley is a mutated
potato?
Bye, Patrick
pretending....
Well, he could be, since he is from Iowa and all......;-)
Mattia
Being, well, silly....
