> fighting), or did he see what we saw? What do you guys think?
I really don't know - Hamilton is such an unknown quantity. What is he?
Did he really kill Illyria?
Stewart
The illusion. I think that was fairly clear. The question is, however,
how that scene ends, ie, what happens when the glamour wears off?
I'm most excited about the potential here..
Mattia
I think he just smooshed her up badly. Don't think she's dead.
Mattia
How was that clear? He was quietly laughing, this could be because he was
happy to see the team broken up, but it could also be a smile of 'hah, so
you think you can fool me'... I don't know....

Well, no, that wasn't the question ;-P
Seriously, I don't know what you mean with this one...

An excellent rebound from the last week.
SPOILER BREAK
Did anyone else notice that we never see Lorne's hand go up? Hmmm.
The group essentially is going to commit suicide, become marked men. But
wasn't Angel already one? What would the difference be?
I have to say, this does make me slightly better about 20. The scene at the
beginning is pretty much the soul reason for that entire debacle. Who
would've believed Angel would've slept with Nina without 20? Hardly anybody,
that's who. It just means I can it that much less seriously.
Well, the implication, IMO, was clear. They move out...and they show a
view of them all fighting. And the only one looking at said view is
Hamilton. Now, they could be messing with us, I definitely wouldn't put
it past them, but for me, they were showing us what he was seeing, a
view through his eyes, as it were.

Stop rearranging things so they make no sense, crazee woman. Read the
original message.

I mean what I wrote, not what your mail programme made of it :-p

Pretty enjoyable, but there should have been a lot more content considering
it's the penultimate episode.

LIES.
It's all about the style and suspense, baby. I like the fact they're not
cramming as much as possible in there. I mean, at least they didn't
waste most of it with irellevant content. Like, y'know, last week's episode.
I give it a 4.8

4.0. I think. It may be much better or much worse than that, but I
can't decide.

I have VERY mixed feelings on this one. In scope it's nice, and it
potentially ties parts of the season together. But a lot of it felt
extremely retrofitted, and I just wasn't *quite* convinced by it. I'm
left with an episode I enjoyed, but which fell short of greatness.
To start with the bad, we wasted a lot of time on the obvious Angel
ploy. He made his first serious move a couple of weeks ago, when he
suddenly sided with the demons who wanted to sacrifice a child, and
even then it looked like a ploy. The episode worked hard to cast
doubt in the minds of AI, but it was all too sudden - maybe if Angel
had gradually gone beige over the season it would have worked, but if
anything he was getting more enlightened. (Plus we had a bizarre
comedic interlude in Rome, slap bang in the middle of Angel's plan.)
It seems like too recent a change to fool the gang, and way too little
too late to gain admittance to the Black Thorn.
Another niggling problem (for me) is that the Black Thorn itself
appears to have been created out of whole cloth solely to give Angel
something he can defeat. I'm pleased they're sticking with the idea
that the Senior Partners can't be defeated, but this feels just a tad
convenient.
Other than those rather large niggles there was actually lots to
enjoy, including that really excellent final shot, pulling back
through the glamour. Very nice. Spike and Illyria were very
enjoyable, as was the return of Angel's old friend. I did like Angel's
big exposition speech, and his "we can't win but we can give Frodo a
chance" speech to the gang. It was a bit hackneyed, but in a good
way. We'll see how it plays out.
(I really hope Illyria isn't dead or... huge anticlimax. They seemed
to have set her up as a player who could help against the senior
partners, and the Wes/Illyria relationship was really interesting.)
I also appreciated that the episode played fair with the audience.
Well, maybe it wanted us slightly wrong-footed, slightly doubting, but
this wasn't a Blood Money style switcheroo. We were given too many
signs that Angel's heart clearly wasn't in it. Unfortunately that
left a lot of the episode feeling like running around waiting for the
rest of the characters to catch on.
Overall I did like it, but it's a real mixed bag. Parts I enjoyed
very much. Other parts, less so. Maybe it's the Curse of David Fury,
but this just wasn't *quite* the big kick ass finale set-up I was
looking for, and neither was it impressively deep, dark and dramatic.
It was loaded with continuity, but much of it felt like it was made up
on the spot. It was sort of... in between.
Ah well. I did kinda like it, especially towards the end, and since
it's really part one of a two-parter, I'll reserve final judgement for
now.

I think he sees the glamour, and that's why we also see it, but I
wouldn't be surprised if he's not entirely taken in by it.

The episode by itself isn't really outstanding in any way. But it does
one very interesting thing: it makes a promise that the finale will
ROCK. And that's something I truly didn't expect from this
disappointing season.
Gavin Clayton
I thought that scene was a continuation of 20 with some unknown actress playing
Buffy till I eventually realised it was Nina.

The only way Illyria could be of any use to AI in the final struggle is if they
restore her powers.

David Fury and wasn't I glad to see his name.
If it had been another Stephen DeKnight/Drew Goddard epsiode I would have
thrown my brand new widescreen TV through the window.
The problem with taking votes this soon after the broadcast is that everyone
who hated last week's attrocity will tend to overcompensate for it this week.
(kim)
Goddard and DeKnight, as a rule, are better writers than Fury.

I finally got to watch this episode and I hope the final episode is better
than this.
First thing I said to my spouse when we finally watched it was "I hope it's
a ruse".
Angel told Nina everything about Buffy and the curse. Obviously we saw the
only time they became intimate as she was worried about him achieving True
Happiness and she was glad he didn't with her. She also knew he may have
been thinking about Buffy during that time. Good for her and this is the
first time this actress actually was acting and didn't throw me out of the
story. So she's improved. I liked that Angel wanted to protect her and get
her and her family away from the horrible things that may happen but it
threw me back to the way he acted about Buffy. Thinking he knew what was
best for her. Didn't he even figure that the members of the Circle of the
Black Thorn would have him under surveillance 24/7? That they already knew
about her and the plane tickets? That they would have her and her family
also under surveillance? I expect we'll hear in the finale that the plane
exploded.
Liked that Spike thought that Illyria was talking about sex when she was
actually talking about conversations. Doesn't he ever get his mind out of
the gutter? Of course he just had to add that he and Angel were intimate
just once. Probably after The Immortal got through with Darla and Dru, he
and Spike insisted that they have a foursome.
So every important client we've been introduced to this season is a member
of the Circle including the mention by the Senator that Hainsley was also
one. And that they all know about Connor. Of course now Gunn and Lorne have
been told about Connor but don't have their memories back. Is that important
in some way?
So Hamilton is watching the confrontation of Angel and his crew. Why wasn't
this marked as part I of II?
Is Illyria dead?
I understand why Angel finished off Drogyn. He couldn't save him and if he
had tried, they both would have ended up dead. By killing him Angel ended
Drogyn's suffering and was accepted into the CotBT. I wonder who will be the
next guardian of the Deeper Well? My choice would be Illyria. She has seen
the consequences of her escape and would make sure it didn't happen again.
One more episode of the Angelverse left. DB has indicated that he feels
typecast and would only do a feature film not TV movies. If it's going to
happen it had better happen soon as both he and JM are getting older. I hope
JW realizes this and puts things in motion else it's the end of the
Angelverse for me.

Mmmmmm.......Angel

He'll flip ya. He'll flip ya for real.
Mattia? Mattia? I remember you... some crazy dutch fo' who has only voted
for (now) 3 episodes since your last vote, "Double or Nothing".
Poor showing :P

As your track-record, obviously, proves:
Damage - 4.5
Why We Fight - 4
Shells - 4.5
[You know you've not voted for the first five episodes, right?]
>The problem with taking votes this soon after the broadcast is that everyone

When else would you like to vote then?
The point is that, on the whole, people vote according to their gut
reaction after the episode. Some go and readjust later on but it's rarely
by much unless the episode is seriously affected by later events (take
"Tomorrow" as a prime example).
-Tafka-
It's okay. I wouldn't remember me either.

Just finished and thought 4.5.
Now I'm having doubts.
Hmmm.

You haven't seen my score for 5x20 yet. I'm saving it for umta.
>[You know you've not voted for the first five episodes, right?]
There were technical reasons. I didn't have Sky or broadband at the time.
5x01 "Conviction" = 4.9
5x02 "Just Rewards" = 4.0
5x03 "Unleashed" = 4.0
5x04 "Hellbound" = 3.5
5x05 "Life of the Party" = 4.0

I might change my mind on 5x20 and 5x21 between now and the UK premiere so it's
better to wait until then.
(kim)
Yes really. All blondes look pretty much alike to me, especially when they're
in bed with ruffled hair.
(kim)
But I mean you _really_ thought it was supposed to be "Buffy"?
... really?
-Tafka-
It's been emotional.

That's fair enough, and ta - got them now.
-Tafka-
No one tosses a dwarf!
Yes really. After the spoof appearance in last week's show and the one with
'Buffy' supposedly under the bedclothes it is what I was expecting. I
understand now that the purpose of last week's episode was to kill off the
Buffy storyline for good.
(kim)
I'm inconsistent. I'd give you more votes, but I ain't seen the eps in
too long :-p
Mattia
>[You know you've not voted for the first five episodes, right?]
Can you please double check I didn't already vote for thesse under the name
'ntsc user' and if I have then the earlier votes should take priority. Thank
you.
(kim)
You're down as NTSC User/Kim in the thing, so it's ok.
