Due to popular demand (and the enormous increase of posters since this
was last posted) here's the unfinished a.b.e. FAQ. If you feel
somethings missing or wrong just reply to this mail, tell me and I'll
add it to the faq a.s.a.p. :-) Still looking for a good french
translation as well btw.....

ALT.BUFFY.EUROPE FAQ - UNFINISHED
------------------------------------------------------------

This FAQ isn't finished yet.....its a guideline on how to post messages
on
the alt.buffy.europe newsgroup. If anyone has anything to add to this
FAQ or
if anyone wants to translate it into another language please reply to
this post.

*********************************************************************
1) Help people are telling me I posted a spoiler to the group. But this
episode has
allready aired....

A: alt.buffy.europe is a place for *all* european fans to interact.
These people
are all in different points in the show. Therefore discussing something
that may
have allready been shown where you are, may spoil a whole season or
worse for
other people on the list.
*********************************************************************

*********************************************************************
2) Q :Can I post spoilers to the group.

A: Yes you can. But there are a few rules you must follow to keep your
fellow
fans from reading things they dont want to.......

Because of the different people from different countries just stating
spoiler in
your message header isnt enough. You must therefore allways make clear
in your
header what episode or season you're discussing and make sure that your
header
isn't spoilerish. For instance a good header for discussion about
passion would
be :
(contains spoilers for passion) wow what a good ep!!

Furthermore *allways* use spoiler spaces for episode specific or other
spoilerish discussion. Just a warning in the header isn't enough!
A good example of a spoiler space is:
s
p
o
i
l
e
r
s
p
a
c
e
spoilerish comment
*********************************************************************

*********************************************************************
3) I'm new to the group and people seem to ignore my posts. What can I
do?

A: You can't do a whole lot about something like that. People are free
to
reply (or refrain from replying) to any post. You might try to make your
posts
worth replying. Discussion about the latest episodes are allways
welcomed so
try that. Read the topics being discussed in the group at the moment and
try
replying to one of those. There's not much more you can do.
*********************************************************************

*********************************************************************
4) Can I post in my own language? I'm not that good with english.....

A: of course! Just be sure to include a [language] part in your header
so people
who don't understand that language don't have to bother with a thread
they
can't understand.

for instance: if your posting a message in french you include a
[francais/french] part in your message header.
*********************************************************************

*********************************************************************
5) I want to reply to a thread in a different language, can I?

A: In short, no. If you want to reply to a thread in a different
language either
start a new thread or don't reply.
The exception to this rule (isn't there allways at least one <g> ?) is
that someone
may allways reply to someone breaking the guidelines in this FAQ in an
obviously uninformed way to point out that fact to them. We've had
people
breaking the language warning guideline in the past. People than
replied to
them to point out that fact. Thats perfectly o.k.
*********************************************************************

**********************************************************************
6) Can I post an off topic message?

A: purely off topic messages like "hey do all you guys feel that ping
pong balls
should be bigger" (or something similar) will get ingnored and aren't
allowed.....
If a thread strays off topic, its ok but try to get it back on topic or
continue the
topic outside the newsgroup....of course if a topic is considered good
fun by most
people on group theres no trouble in a bit off topicness. Just use your
good
judgement and consider that an on topic post is more likely to get an
awnser
than an off topic one...
***********************************************************************

***********************************************************************
7) Are there any dont's which will get me in trouble on a.b.e?

A: Apart from the things stated as dont's above, not really. In general
things like
"sarah michelle gellar is só hot" or "do you guys have any nude pics of
buffy"
won't earn you much karma points with the group regulars , so try to
refrain
from those....
************************************************************************

************************************************************************

8) I have buffy things for sale, can I advertise on the group?

A: in short, no...... people seeking to trade stuff or who need stuff
are allowed but
try to keep it to a minimume, this isnt a trade group.
People seeking to make profit by selling buffy things including things
like
bootleged copies of episodes arent welcome....
************************************************************************

************************************************************************

9) Any other things I should know before posting

A: Not really.....now go on and post allready <g>!!!!

How about putting "Full of Grace" in the FAQ ?

Here's a french translation of the FAQ...I don't know some of the french
words though (what the hell is FAQ in french?) I also need the french
name of one of the episodes for question 2...left some english words in
where I couldn't think of an appropriate french word..Other than that,
how about a Q&A pertaining to discussions of Angel?

Hope this helps,

Mattia

PS: I can try my hand at a german one if you'd like ;-)

------------------------------------------------------------
ALT.BUFFY.EUROPE FAQ - FRANCAIS
------------------------------------------------------------

*********************************************************************
1)
Q: A L'aide!

premiere saison serait:

[FRENCH/FRANCAIS] Episode Genial! (Spoilers pour <Ep name in French>
S1/Saison 1)

R: Pas grande chose, pur etre honnet.

participer?

R: Pas vraiment....alors vas poster des messages!

I suggest the following additions:

[1] Define what is considered a spoiler. The following is taken from the
alt.tv.buffy-v-slayer FAQ:

What is a spoiler?

A spoiler is information about the content of an episode. Some
people don't want to hear ahead of time what's going to happen during an
episode, because it will spoil the episode's impact.

Spoilers can be major, revealing important plot points or major
changes in characters or situations, or minor, just giving away some minor
detail about the episode. (A major spoiler for the Star Wars trilogy
would be that Darth Vader is Luke's father. A minor spoiler would be that
the rebels are hiding out on an ice planet at the start of the second
movie.)

[2] Is it possible to give an indication which seasons / episodes have been
aired in Europe?

[3] In addition to 2):
Use a minimum of 25 lines in your spoilerspace. Blank lines are no good,
because some newsreaders delete them.

[4] In addition to 7):
Do not feed the Trolls. It just makes things worse. If you want to do
something, just killfile them.

Try not flame other people. Be tolerant of what other people have to say.
And no, not everyone is out to get you. So don't jump into defense mode too
soon. -

Trim out the parts of a post you are responding to that are not
immediately relevant to your response. For instance, never, ever, quote
all 471 lines of a posting to add a two line response (taken from
alt.tv.buffy-v-slayer FAQ)

Basically, please put your response to someone else's post at
the *end* of the parts of the original that you quote. This is for two
reasons - one, it makes things a LOT easier to read, and two, it
prevents the accidental removal of the all important spoiler space. (taken
from uk.media.tv.buffy-v-slayer FAQ)

Don't post binaries. This is a non-binary newsgroup. You can post a link to
websites containing relevant articles, pictures, movies or soundfiles.
If you want to post binaries, do it in the
alt.binaries.multimedia.buffy-v-slayer newsgroup.

Well, that's it (for now... ;o)

Bye, Patrick

It's an FAQ, not an episode guide. IMHO, surely a link to BuffyGuide.com
or whatever would suffice?

Ummm.. how did I fail the first one? I left in the parts of the FAQ that I
was responding to. I didn't feel like quoting the entire FAQ.

And for the second one, I didn't think the reading order was important in
this case. But I could be wrong here.

Always willing to learn some more (unless of course you were being
sarcastic, then don't reply and just laugh at my cluelessness :o)

For Angel, http://sanctuary.digitalspace.net/ is a good site, unless
anyone knows a better one. Buffyworld.com covers both shows and I'm sure
there are countless others.

IMHO of course...

PS: Just got one of the funniest error messages when I tried posting

I kid you not...
