Summary
Gunn is hunting a local demon and asks Angel for help in taking care of it.
They're not having much luck. When Cordelia gets a vision of Gunn in
trouble, she can't reach Angel or Wesley, so she sets out to save him
herself. Together, Cordelia and Gunn stumble on the demon by accident and
Gunn nearly gets killed when Cordelia distracts the demon by spraying mace
in its face. At that moment, Angel and Wesley barge in and the fight is
quickly won. Throughout all this, Angel has been dreaming about Darla and
he isn't at his best during the day.
My Opinion
The plot fell a bit flat. It was just your run-of-the-mill demon that
showed up just in time for the fight scene. Nothing memorable. There was a
bit of character work, but it wasn't all that special either. The Darla
dreams were certainly intriguing, but it wasn't much more than a tease yet.
The only thing this episode had going for it were a few funny moments, like
Angel with a pink helmet. And Nabbit. I like Nabbit more and more and I
have a feeling the writers are going somewhere with him. He's going to find
out the hard way that fighting demons and vampires isn't nearly as much fun
in reality as it is in his games. I also get the feeling Gunn and Nabbit
are going to team up at some point. They're just too much eachother's
opposites to be a coincidence.
Musings about Monster Meanings
Darla represents Angel's old life and his desire to return to it. Life was
a lot easier with no regrets and no conscience. She's definitely mothering
him a little, which is somewhat disturbing considering the circumstances,
but she is his sire, after all.
Memorable Moments
Angel dreams about the karaoke bar. Could singing "Mandy" have traumatized
him so badly, he's now having nightmares of the place or was it actually a
very positive dream until Darla intruded into it? Is Angel starting to show
more desire to open up to people?
Cordelia almost panics when she has a vision of Gunn in trouble and she
can't reach Angel or Wesley. She goes off looking for Gunn on her own, not
necessarily because she likes him. She barely knows him and she's mostly
just seen a lot of anger from him. She goes after him, because he's someone
who needs her help. Cordelia has come a long way.
Cordelia shows quite a bit of medical knowledge. Perhaps she's just been
watching too much E.R, but it's more likely that she's taken a first aid
course. I can't see the old Cordelia wanting to bother with that, so my
guess is she took it during the summer, after her experiences in "To Shanshu
in LA".
Quotes
Gunn: You two? I find Deevak I'm gonna need more than C3PO and
'stick figure Barbie' backing me up. No offense.
Wesley: Very little taken.
Cordelia: Who me? I'm no friend. I mean I'm just here
on business. I'm a working girl. - That came out wrong.
I mean, obviously I'm not a 'working girl.' Not that I couldn't be if I
wanted to, of course I could. - God that sounded stuck up, didn't it?
I didn't mean to imply that I could be a working girl and you couldn't.
Far from it. You'd make a great... Could you just point me to the
hors d'oeuvers?
