Spike returns!

And becomes invulnerable!

And gets his ass kicked by Buffy all the same....

He said it himself: Sunnydale has witnessed some spectacular kicking of
Spike's ass several times. And this is the latest addition to that painful
list. To me, Spike got less threatening with every kicking. But this time he
finds the Gem of Amara, which renders him invulnerable to yer basic vampire
discomforts like sunlight and staking. Watch out Buffy, one would say. And
sure enough, when she least expects it, Spike makes his move on her. Just in
time to see Buffy getting brushed off by Parker (great timing!). So now he's
got the Gem, and he caught Buffy in a vulnerable moment. What could go
wrong? He gives her (and Xander while he's at it) a good beating, adding
sniding but dead accurate remarks about her love life left and right. All
seems to go well until he mentions Angel. I guess he shouldn't have. Buffy
takes over the fight and removes the ring from his hand. Another painful
defeat for Spike. And this time a very disappointing one as well. Is that
the best he could do with the Gem of Amara in his possession? Spike might
consider a carreer change. It seems he's not cut out to be a bad ass
vampire. Sure, he can stake harmless Harmony (and fail even then). But when
he faces a worthy opponent, he's out of his league.

But you gotta admire the man's persistence. And he's always fun to have
around (well, for us viewers at least). But I would like to see him do
something really evil for once, not another failed attempt. Remind me why he
was so scary and threatening again.
And his taste in women is slipping as well. I mean, Harmony??? And even
worse, clueless Harm seems to be replaced by an equally clueless demon. I
know the demon is supposed to adopt some traits from his host. But in this
case, I don't notice any difference between Harmony and VampHarmony, save
for the fangs and ugly gameface. I guess Spike has not yet recovered from
being dumped by Dorkus... err Drusilla.

Talking about being dumped... Parker Abrahams, major poophead. I gave him
the benefit of the doubt, but he really covered Buffy in slime this ep. Yuk!
My father died last year, gimme a hug (and some more). How low is that? And
Buffy fell for it big time. These things happen. He could have turned out to
be a great sensitive guy I guess. But now that it's clear that he's just
using people, please get over it and go on with your life Buffy. Okay, it
sucks and I can understand that you blame yourself at first. But "Maybe
Parker and I could still work it out"? Hellooo... how naive are we? You've
been had. Why can't you see what Parker is all about. Even Willow managed to
adjust her opinion of him after he dumped you.
In short, I don't hope that Buffy is going to whine a lot over this one. I
don't think she's *that* naive. It's obvious what happened here. I can
understand that Buffy feels uncertain about how people see her. Her
alter-ego sometimes gets in the way of her attempts to socialize just like
any other student. But that's not what happened here. Now go beat the crap
out of Parker in some dark alley and get on with your life.

Parker was good for one thing though, his unintentional Angel reference to
Buffy: "don't you just hate guys that are all 'I'm dark and brooding so give
me love?". Thanks for that one Parker. Spike mentioned Angel as well. And Oz
is going to bring the Gem of Amara to Angel. So even though Angel is out of
Sunnydale, his spirit is kept alive. I like that.

Anya wants to get on with her life as well. But first she has to get over
Xander (literally). I was surprised to see her back. But then again, she has
nowhere else to go. I don't think she ever graduated. I mean, being a
Vengeance Demon doesn't leave you with much time to do your homework and
score some grades. Which makes me wonder why she kept attending at Sunnydale
High after she turned human. Maybe she worked some magic back when she still
had her powers to provide her with a cover. I guess she could have made up
and forged her highschool history and registration.
But as for now, having sex with Xander is all she can think of. And actually
having sex with Xander doesn't make that thought go away. Poor Xander...
another normal and healthy relationship for him. Ok, so that's to be
expected living in the Buffyverse.

Question: whatever happened to that Happymeal with legs at the party? Spike
dumped him on Harmony. But did he live, or are some students going to wake
up to find a dead and bloodless body in their living room?

And I'm anxiously waiting for the episode where vicious Angry Puppies are
wreaking havoc in Sunnydale. Unleash the Puppies from Hell!!!

Bye, Patrick
