*** SPOILERS for Buffy 1.10 Nightmares ***

"I'm not worried. If there's something bad out there, we'll find, you'll
slay, we'll party."

Buffy knows exactly what the Master looks like before she's ever layed
eyes on him. Must be that those prophetic dreams are really detailed, in
hifi stereo sound and color. Was the Master was really out of his
confines for a moment? If so, then I guess he's one pissed off vampire
now that the nightmares have ended. And to think that he had the
opportunity to kill Buffy right there and then.

But he'll get another shot at that soon I think. Because something tells
me that Buffy isn't really certain she can defeat the Master. She 'met'
him twice this episode, and not once did she so much as take a stab at
him. So it's too bad that Buffy will die at the end of this season. She
had much potential left... Okay, so she doesn't die and the series
finale. We all know that Angel will save her from the Master. Or maybe
it'll be Cordelia who scares the Master away with a monstruous bad hair
day. Err.. can I confess here that she looked mighty fine in that scene
where Wendell was stupid enough to stand in her light? Especially when
she threw Xander a sarcastic smile. She's not no Willow, but still very
easy on the eyes there.

Mmmm.. nightmares... Freud would have a field day with this one. And so
will I.
Xander's nightmare was sort of Willow's dream come true. But she didn't
look too excited when he showed everyone his boxer shorts. I guess she
wanted some more privacy to go with that moment. She could laugh about
it back in the library though. Just unlike Xander.
Willow did switch mighty quick from 'I wet my pants' to 'laughing my ass
off' right after she got booed off the stage when Xander reminded her of
his sixth birthday. I guess that's part of her cheerful nature. The
clown was nothing to laugh about though. He was pretty creepy. So Xander
hates clowns *and* mimes. Yay Xander for punching that clown's lights
out. Boo Xander for letting himself get so easily lured by chocolate
bars. How gullible is he?

Willow's nightmare was pretty predictable after her showscase of
stagefright in 'The Puppet Show'. And the "Everyone staring? I would
hate to have everyone paying attention to me like that." was also an
indication. Kinda weird that they only came up with that one nightmare
for her. She would be the one with a large selection of nightmares with
all the fears and uncertainties she harbours. Maybe she's a lot stronger
than we think.

I can understand how losing his way in the library and being unable to
read are two of Giles' greatest fears. Those are the things that for a
large part define him. Connected to that is his fear of losing Buffy. He
seems to doubt his ability to guide and train his extraordinarily gifted
Slayer and he's afraid that he will fall short. Resulting in Buffy's
untimely death.

But that wasn't exclusively his nightmare. Buffy gets buried alive by
the Master and returns as a vampire. Hey, now she can live happily ever
after with Angel! Buffy doesn't see this positive side of her vampiric
facial and runs off to the nearest hospital for some cosmetic surgery.
But since the surgeon's hands are crippled, VampBuffy has to defeat the
Ugly Man to regain her youthful beauty. Oh, and Buffy gets younger each
episode with her DoB ranging from 1979 and 1980 (IRYJ) to 1981 (this
episode).
The divorce of Buffy's parents is still a painful event for her.
Especially since she fears that she's the main cause of it. When her
father bluntly tells her she's nothing but a disappointment to him it
hits her like a sledgehammer. The most beautiful and moving scene of
this episode.

A bit of a short review this time. But that doesn't mean this episode
wasn't good. Very good performances by the entire cast. The Scooby's
reaction to Buffy's death was a bit strange; there could have been more
devastation and panic. But I really loved the suspense after that: will
she bite him or not?
Two children in one episode is almost more than I can handle. But Billy
was way more bearable than The Annoing One. Apart from his increasing
voice disorder, probably caused by the moisty atmosphere in the batcave,
nothing really happens around that kid. What does the Master need him
for other than a willing ear to listen to his lectures. Still, the
Master looks like a very good match for Buffy. And now that they've met,
it's time for the big showdown. I think Buffy is going to need all the
help she can get with this one.
