"The time has come for us to get off the sidelines and shape the future
that we seek. That is why I came to Copenhagen today," he said. "I
believe that what we achieved in Copenhagen is not going to be the end,
but rather the beginning."
He should have added,
"All of these climate change negotiations have happened before, and they
will happen again. Again. Again. Again. Again. Again. Again."
If only Bonfils had been out there demonstrating, it all would have been
different.

Yeah, then you might have had the added bonus of seeing me getting
arrested.
In fact, while all this was going on, I've been trying to save *your*
country by downloading copies of "Killing in the Name of" by Rage
Against the Machine:
We all have our priorities, I guess...

Truly, buying Killing in the Name instead of the latest X-factor hit is
the beginning of wisdom.
It could be said to be the unofficial anthem of the global justice
movement here. Oh, I'm sorry that would be "domestic extremists":

Having been once one of the proverbial "usual suspects", it must be said
the last demo I went on (for "jobs, justice and climate" as I recall,
http://www.putpeoplefirst.org.uk/) was a rather inspiring affair.
The Police behaved much better than they did a few weeks later at the
various climate camps, as indeed did the demonstrators.
Best wishes

Question: is Copenhagen pronounced koh-pen-hay-gun or koh-pen-hah-gun?
(more or less)
Thanks,
jtk
If you're a Murkin, it's koh-pen-hay-gun, else koh-pen-hah-gun.
I believe that, in common with the rest of Danish, "Copenhagen" is
pronounced (more or less) like someone with a bad head cold clearing
his (or her) throat. In particular, the "hagen" part.
Lee Rudolph
Heh.
In fact you're both right.
The English pronounciation would be the "ay" one. The "ah" one is how the
Germans would say it.
In Danish, though, it's spelled "Kbenhavn" and pronounced like someone
with a bad head cold etc.

OTOH "pronunciation" is the correct way of pronouncing it as
well as the way it's spelt.

May Shai-Hulud clear the path before you.
I stand correctified.
Careful, you could pass for a slackjawed yokel mangling
the language like that there.
