It's certainly a CG-driven romp but what a romp. The
CG is good and what at least one reviewer said about it
being a snoozer between CG effects scenes is just not
true. It's long but it moves along. Even with critics
booing it, 2012 will probably become a family favourite
like two of Emmerich'sother films -- "Independence Day"
and "Godzilla". According to Wikipedia Ebert said
"...delivers what it promises, and since no sentient
being will buy a ticket expecting anything else, it will
be, for its audiences, one of the most satisfactory
films of the year."

Is it a believable end of the world? Hell yeah! I'm
updating my apocalypse kit right away.

Even more believable is the lack of a noble response
from our governments. This is no Ta Leoni / Morgan
Freeman apocalypse. It's more like it would really be,
right down to Woody Harrelson as whacko but finally
correct conspiracy pirate radio operator/blogger.

A few things they didn't use that they could have:

-surface ships might not survive but some submarines
could and would certainly be a post-pockylips asset

-hot babes with clothing compromised by the disasters
(gay director obviously)

-a dog anyone actually cares about saving

(She'll kiss your ass goodbye)

Heh, I'm pretty sure that's not what the writer of
"Beyond Thunderdome" had in mind but it'll work for
*this* group.
