"Lawsuits Take the Lead in Fight Against
Disinformation"

"Defamation cases have made waves across an
uneasy right-wing media landscape, from Fox
to Newsmax."

<<In just a few weeks, lawsuits and legal
threats from a pair of obscure election
technology companies have achieved what
years of advertising boycotts, public
pressure campaigns and liberal outrage
could not: curbing the flow of
misinformation in right-wing media.

Fox Business canceled its highest rated
show, “Lou Dobbs Tonight,” on Friday after
its host was sued as part of a $2.7 billion
defamation lawsuit. On Tuesday, the
pro-Trump cable channel Newsmax cut off a
guest’s rant about rigged voting machines.
Fox News, which seldom bows to critics, has
run fact-checking segments to debunk its own
anchors’ false claims about electoral
fraud.>>

When it comes to the buck, right-wing media
balk at having to pay for its lies. And its
lie cost the big buck, like billions.

Hip hip hooray! Lies cost big buck to
right-wing media, so they stop, or at least
reign in, their misinformation! It is how
capitalism works! It is the free market!

Individuals and companies can escape into
the alternative reality that they choose,
but there is still real reality. It is
one thing to emit your subjective opinions,
e. g., whether you like or dislike something,
but it is another to make factually false
statements about something objective, like
whether some voting machines functioned well
or badly. The latter can be objectively
checked.

If you misrepresent something objective, it
can cost you the big bucks, like billions,
and could drive your company out of business.
That is capitalism. Even if Roger Ailes came
back to life, he could not get Fox out of
such troubles. There is real reality and a
real justice system, with real laws against
defamation on the basis of real information.

Where did you find that? Not originating in apz. Besides which,
there finally does seem to be a way to shut up the liars. Too bad it
can't be done with the truth.
