Btw, I think NOW OUT WHERE = "Out in the middle of nowhere" would have
scanned better, but it's not my puzzle...

12. Just a guess: Perhaps the full word is "Control", so this is
"losing control", or "lost control"? Or perhaps the final "l"
is "out of control"?

5. Another idea: if a "jay" is a representative bird, then this could
be "The birds and the bees"?
