Patriots safety Patrick Chung had a charge of cocaine possession
brought against him conditionally dismissed, according to a New
Hampshire county attorney.
In August, Chung was indicted for a felony following an incident
at his Meredith, N.H. home, in which police were called and
found the drugs.
The three-time Super Bowl winner was facing 3 1/2 years in
prison and entered a not guilty plea in August.
“The parties have agreed to resolve the pending criminal charges
against Mr. Chung, under the following terms,” Belknap County
attorney Andrew Livernois said in a statement. “The State has
agreed that it will file what is known as a ‘conditional nolle
prosequi’ of the charges. This means that the State has agreed
to conditionally dismiss the charges against Mr. Chung, with the
explicit understanding that Mr. Chung will abide by the
following conditions.”
Chung, 32, will have to keep his nose clean and avoid any run-
ins with the law. He also will be subjected to drug tests and is
expected to perform 40 hours of community service. The final
condition of his charges getting bumped is waiving the right to
a speedy trial.
“We are happy with the agreement and ready to move forward,”
Chung’s lawyer Corey MacDonald said.
The NFL could still choose to punish Chung for the incident.
Chung finished the 2019 season with 13 games played, 12 starts
and 51 tackles.
