Hello everone. I'm helping Ted out by posting some stuff for him and
downloading threads. I'm sure he will eventually have his own account
but for now I'm going to be his middle man. Please feel free to respond
to any of the following as I will be keeping him updated on the activity
of this newsgroup.

Eventually I will have a URL set up for boomerang related information and
files. If anyone has a FAQ they can point me to - that would be a great
place to start.

I'll be posting something soon about the recent Gel tournament - as soon
as I can get together with Mike. He usually writes something for MHR.

In the mean time --STAY RAD--

Greetings, alt.boomerang readers. I do not have a modem (yet), but I do
have a computer and many of the readers may know of me anyway. I've
been a boomerang thrower for more than 20 years and am best known for
the advancements I made to the MTA over the past decade, as well as for
the editing I did in Many Happy Returns, The Boomerang Journal, and
cuurently in a new publication titled "Boomerang News". The new
publication is only three months old (first issue - February 1994) and
the third issue will be mailed in early May, ahead of schedule. Chris
Walcott recently sent me a text file with some of the comments y'all
have made over the past few weeks. I also received a disk from Tony
Brazelton with his contribution towards boomerang information, for which
I was really impressed. I am trying to do something like what Tony is
doing on your network, only through the new publication. A rough draft
of the USA news from issue #3 is listed below to give you an idea of the
contents. Of course, I can't send any of the photos from the
newsletter, via the network. And I'm currently working on the overseas
portion of the newsletter which accounts for about half of the contents.
I get virtually every newsletter from every club in the world and I
translate all the news, no matter what the language. I do not include
lengthy articles on specific subjects in the newsletter, but I am
working on offering such things as seperate publications. Other
services I try to offer through the newsletter include electronic
databases of boomerang literature, USA and overseas addresses and phone
numbers, literature, patent info, videotapes, etc. as well as boomerang
flight simulator software, as well as mailing services and information
listings. You get the idea. I promise my responsiveness is impeccable.
Yes, I left the editorship of USBA because of the poor responsiveness
that I received from certain members of the USBA board of directors.
You can find out more about the new publication by calling me at
(313)-971-2970 (5PM-10PM Eastern Time) or by writing me at the following

Abstract (preliminary rough draft) from "Boomerang News" - May 1994

News From The: USA

Mike Shelton of the Houghton Mifflin Publishing Company
(617-351-5310) is making plans to integrate boomerang flight dynamics
into an “Integrated Math” textbook for high school instruction.

Boomerangs hit the front page of the 29 March edition of The Jackson
Citizen Patriot newspaper with the title: “Jackson [Michigan] Gets
Boomerang Title Event”. The article presented an excellent summary of
the competition angle of the sport for readers who may know nothing
about boom tossing.

The Easter Sunday edition of “The Ann Arbor News” carried an editorial
that said Ann Arbor [Michigan] was a more suitable city than Jackson for
hosting “weirdness”. The same edition of “The Ann Arbor News” featured
the cartoon illustrated on page 2, drawn by Scott Stantis.

As with the rest of the American economy, boomerang sales have been in a
slump for just about everybody. The Boomerang Man writes to mention
that he has noticed a recent sharp increase in orders for left handed
throwers. In the past, this has been an indicator of improved boomerang
economic times. Rich mentions that he is expecting a supply of Herb
Smith booms for his customers that are into collectables. Rich is
seeking overseas manufacturers who wish to sell their high quality
boomerang products through his retail outlet. If you think you have
something desireable for the American marketplace, contact Rich Harrison
at:

Boomerang Man
1806 No. 3rd St.
Monroe, LA 71201-4222

Any of the readers who are interested in collectable Aboriginal
artifacts should contact Ted Bailey (see address on page 7) immediately.
An impromptu listing of collectors was recently provided to William
Fagan & Co. for their latest sale of collectable artifacts. David
Hetrick and Steve Conaway were able to obtain several fine old throw
sticks before the pile evaporated to other collectors in March. Other
shipments of collectable boomerangs and artifacts from several sources
are pending and a list of interested buyers is being put together for
these sales, when they occur.

The Discovery Cable Channel carried a half hour commercial show called
“Planet Kidz” on April 16. There was a four minute segment on the GCI
sponsored tri-Fly competition that was held in Allentown, PA last year.
Big name throwers such as Michael Girvin, Eric Darnell, Peter Ruhf and
Chet Snouffer were heavily featured. The closely related “Air Dancer”
and “Pro-Fly” tri-blader products were also featured. Throwers who have
sampled the “Air Dancer” boomerang have had nothing but high praise for
it’s ease of throw, accurate return, and safe material. Well done,
Eric!!!

Eric Darnell wrote to mention that the Air Dancer tri-blader (see BN
N1P1) is now available. Serious retailers should contact Eric for more
information on procuring wholesale quantities. The boomerang has a list
price of about $10. Call Eric at (802)-765-4066 or write to the
following address for more information:

The Australian Catalogue Company has issued catalogue supplement #6.2
with more goodies from the land down under. This time, a new boomerang
book called “The Boomerang Information Book” by S. G. King is offered
for sale at a price of just $5. The book is not very big, but it is
heavily decorated with nice line art and has interesting facts about
Aboriginal type boomerangs. Some of the information on international
clubs is a little old, but BN readers can pick up address corrections by
reading BN. Many of the readers have been starved for boomerang related
literature, so here is your chance to pick up the first new book
available in quite some time. The shipping price for Australian
Catalogue orders is usually $5, but as a special treat for “Boomerang
News” readers, Pamela Wood has agreed to ship the book as a single item
for $1.50 P&H. Yes, you can call and order by credit card, but you need
to mention that you read about the book in BN to get the shipping
discount. Ask for a copy of the latest Australian Catalogue Company
catalog when you call. It is filled with other Aussie goodies, such as
music, books and pins. For more info, call Pamela Wood at

The feature boomerang for this issue is a Rabbit Stick made by American
South-West Indians more than 700 years ago. Alan Scott Craig (see BN
N2P1) doesn’t have many collectable boomerangs, but the rabbit stick,
pictured on the following page, is Alan’s most precious possession.
Valued at more than $800, this grooved rabbit stick is 33" long. The
airfoil at its greatest section is 11/2" wide with a thickness of 1/2".
The weight is a full 12 1/8 ounces. A weight is attached to one end,
held in place by a dark leather pouch. A sinew wrapping bands the
rabbit stick at several locations. Although rabbit sticks are fairly
common in SW Indian artifact collections, few have the age and
workmanship found in this prime specimen.
