That being said, yes I did like Teeth of the Tiger but it's not among my
favorites. To be honest, the only Clancy book I really didn't care for was
The Bear and the Dragon. Red Rabbit was...alright.

While I agree TC deserves credit for DOH, I think that you are stretching
things just a bit.

Tom writes speculative fiction. Everyone knows that. :-) He'd
probably have invented the waterbed for Jack's back, if it hadn't
already been invented. ;-P~~~~

Invented? He was beaten to the punch on such misting systems, too,
then. They're quite common out here where it's dry and hot.

Actually, IIRC, RA Heinlein was given credit for inventing the water
bed...based on notes written in the 1940s that were developed into
Stranger in a Strange Land.

IIRC, the Saudis perfected the large scale mist cooling systems for
one of the summertime Hadjiis back in the late 1970s or early
1980s...but the basis runs back to the old Swamp Coolers.

I seem to recall that waterbeds go way back before that, far enough that the
first ones were made of animal skins.

Amusement parks in SoCal had mist cooling in the '80s.

Which run back to the cooling towers employed in antiquity. Wet cloths hung
in a tower extending upward from the space to be cooled and open at the top.
Air is cooled and humidified by the cloths, becomes denser, and descends to
the room below, drawing more air in behind it.
Going up onto the roof to keep the cloths wet probably wasn't the plum job.

Hmmmmm indeed!
TC has an uncanny knack for some of the things in his books occurring
in the real world. But, I've got to say that if, a few days after the
olympics, a worldwide outbreak of disease occurs that wipes out the
entire human race, I'll never buy another TC book again!!! :-)

Given the sparse attendance at the Olympics (due to prices and a
desire NOT to fly through Athens, I assume), I doubt they'd get very
many people by spreading bio agents via the Games.

That's a good point. Given what these games have cost the Greeks,
and how little they have gotten for it, I suspect that the demand for
hosting future games will decrease.

I'd expect you'll see a lot more of them being hosted in the US, given
that the principle source of income has become the TV revenues. If a
lot of the facilities don't already exist, having to put them together
is far too expensive these days.

They can always give it back to Los Angeles. LA made money in 1984!
The 9/11 hijacking attempt was actually foretold in by Danny Coulson (a
former FBI agent), without knowing the true potential of the plan, who
bragged about the FBI stopping Osama's cronies (Ramzi Yousef and company)
from hijacking and blowing up several airplanes simultaneously. This
occurred after the first WTC bombing and the computers with the data were
recovered in Yousef's possession shortly thereafter. See Danny Coulson, No
Heroes pp. 427-28, Pocketbooks NY 1999.
