so SoF movie will have Liev Schreiber play John Clark. Well the
picture looks right ( http://us.imdb.com/Name?Schreiber,+Liev ) Don't
recall ever seeing this guy in anything, but looked interesting

President Fowler played by James Cromwell--that is a very good choice.
Looks like him in my opinoin (my mind picture)

Dr. Rita Russell -- is that Liz Elliot??? played by Pragna Desai

Bill CAbot played by Morgan Freeman--who was cabot supposed to be? Sec
state or defense, right? Dies in the superbowl I think?

Cabot in the movie sounds, from 3rd-party sources, to be nothing like
the one in the book. He was the head intelligence guy (formal title
forgotten), but, IIRC, was said to be nothing more than a good-looking
suit, while Ryan was taking up the slack in the operational
department.

My thoughts on the movie:
Ok, I will admit I am a huge Harrison Ford fan, and when I first
red The Hunt For Red October, I immmediately envisoned him as Jack
Ryan. I think I always will. When I buy and Read "Red Rabbit" this
summer, I will envision Harrison Ford as Ryan. That being said, I
think Affleck can do the job and deserves a chance. Obviously, The Sum
of All Fears movie will be totally different from the book, it
probably should even have a different title. But when Ford, at age 60
(almost?), backed out, a good idea was to go with a younger actor and
"reinvent" Jack Ryan, so to speak. Now, if this introduction finds
Ryan as a young CIA dude, with some self doubt maybe, and a young guy
not really taken seriously at first by the Prez and upper brass, then
I think Affleck is a good choice. Let's see what he can do. I think
the trailer looked good. I am not against Affleck being a young Jack
Ryan. Yeah, I wish Harrison Ford was still in the role, but I think
Affleck can do the job. And he is surrounded in this movie by a
top-notch cast. As for all the differences from the book, well, that's
Hollywood. The Bourne Identity will be going through almost the same
thing this summer.

There was Marcus Cabot, the DCI at the time.

Will Affleck be able to bring in the big box office bugs like Ford can, or will he be like what Clonney did to
Batman, the last time there was a Batman movie. If its just ok or so so, then there might or might not be another
Jack Ryan movie.

Depends on the mind. I figure that's why movies are so successful.
