So, what's with the 'stamped case' that was described on the original S&S
Website? Is it the case the cards were in? The site made it sound like it
would be slipcased volume...

The "case" in bookbinding parlance is the hardcover itself. In other words, the boards and the leather or other material that encase the pages.

In the UtD S/L, this is stamped with the author's name and title and an illustration.
