and he says that that's not quite right...
what is the real rhyme, what does it refer to,
and what (pardon this ignorance) happened in Oxford Town?
Thanks
Eldritch McLeod
I don't know the real rhyme, but Oxford was where two civil rights
activists, 1 black and 1 white, were murdered. I think it was in '63.
I might be wrong, as I'm certainly not always right (but I try). ;)
Odetta/Detta had just returned from Oxford, where she too was involved
in the civil rights movement, when the time of her drawing came. That's
the relevance of the song that Eddie can't remember.
Hope that helped some.

Oxford, Mississippi is the home of the University of Mississippi
which is commonly referred to as "Ole Miss", not to be confused
with the other school -- Mississippi State University.

Hate to have to nitpick on an offtopic thread, but as my husband is
fiercely loyal to Mississippi State and hates Ole Miss., I am obliged to
let you know that they are NOT the same place. Mississippi State is in
Starkville, MS. University of Mississippi (aka Ole Miss.) is located in
Oxford. They are in fact two very different schools and are fierce
rivals. Just so you know. :-)
