So far, the principle actors have not been cast. Location filming has
involved extras only. The director is Craig Baxley.
It is going to be a three-part miniseries, shot largely on a set in Toronto.
The film's senior producer is Thomas Brodek, and the plot calls for a
furious blizzard to hit an island fishing village in Maine. Location
shooting is/will be done in Southwest Harbor, Maine, with shooting
dates planned for late January (already done), April and May. Crews have
spent much of the last few weeks making the classic setting look even
more classic. Shops that once had clean, grey exteriors now have lobster
traps, fish netting and other Hollywood-style additions designed to make
the Maine coastal village look, well, more Maine-ish.
The series centers largely on a devil character named "Linoge" who
is looking for a small child to succeed him. The child is a member
of a small, coastal town in Maine called Little Tall Island, (aka
Southwest Harbor). In order to lure the town into giving him the
child, Linoge inflicts his wrath, creating a catastrophic blizzard,
bringing destruction to its waterfront and killing off some of its
citizens.
Dried potato flakes were to be used for imitation snow. Local officials
did not went the usual plastic flakes. Some of the filming will be done
using Southwest Harbor's Main Street. Filmmakers were to pay for the
installation of a detour around that area for the duration of filming.
Using three giant airplane engines, crews blew the tons of flakes on
the set, which was about 200 yards of Southwest Harbor's downtown area.
The Kings donated a $50,000 matching grant to the Soutwest Harbor
town library for its renovation campaign. The library will receive
$1 for every $2 received in new gifts after Jan 1, up to $50,000.
some of the residents had "made it clear they would like the town
compensated for the inconvenience of having Main Street closed
during the weeklong filming in January and several days this
spring. At a public hearing on 'Storm' last fall, more than one
resident suggested King make a donation to the library." (The
Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation has donated generously to
libraries throughout Maine, including a multimillion-dollar
donation to the Bangor Public Library.)
