Was wondering if anyone on the net had any suggestions as to some really
good Erotic Horror books that are on the market today. I prefer vampire
stories, things like that, but mainly about vampires who also have
a fantastic desire for sex! I need something hot to read!
I saw a new paperback anthology of erotic vampire stories called "Love
in Vein". Don't recall the editor.

Erotic horror: Lovedeath by Dan Simmons
Some stories of Clive Barker
Creed by James Herbert (and his other books to a certain
degree)
Vampires with a 'fantastic desire for sex': you should definitely read
the 'Vampire World' series of Brian Lumley; if you really want to get into this
series you should read his Necroscope series too; it is also mainly about
vampires. The Necroscope series has not such a very good start (the first two
books), but gets better in books 3-5. The Vampire World series is better
written and consists of three parts:
Blood Brothers
The Last Aerie
Blood Wars
Enter these series of your own free will......

I know you asked for books, but have you seen the film The Hunger? That has the
cinematic equivalent of what you are looking for I think!

>Erotic horror: Lovedeath by Dan Simmons
While I very much enjoyed "Lovedeath" I do not agree that it is `erotic'
horror. Simmons himself explains as much in the preface... "Lovedeath"
is the english translation of "Leibdet" (sp?), a German operatic term
describing the conflict of love and death. I found that Simmons five
novellas were more related to the operatic term than any notion of
`eroticism'. As I remember, of the five novellas, only `The Great Lover'
had any significant amount of sex in it, and that was not intended to be
titillating. Unfortunately the book's own cover would lead one to
believe that it is an `erotic horror' novel... I guess this is the
publisher's attempt to cash in on this new trend in horror.
It is still a very good book, and if you are looking for some very good
writing you can't go wrong with Dan Simmons. If you're looking for
eroticism, however, you'll have to look elsewhere...

I mentioned Lovedeath, even though I actually haven't read it (yet). My
apologies. The thing is, I picked it up in a bookstore (the translated
version), read the cover, opened it and read some random passage which was
(coincidentally) very erotic (IMHO). The cover story classified the book as
being erotic horror, but I should know by now that the text on the cover is
nonsense sometimes (especially in translated editions). So when someone asked
for erotic horror I wanted to help by pointing out this book.
So it was not me that was looking for erotic horror, although I have
nothing against it. And I am aware of the greatness of Dan Simmons after
reading Carrion Comfort, Hyperion (both books, best series ever) and Children
of the Night. Can anyone confirm a vague rumour I heard somewhere that Dan
Simmons is making a sequel to the Hyperion books??
Gerton (on Roland van Aggele's account)
There exists a book entitled _Love in Vein_ about vampires and love
and stuff. I am not sure how much sex there is in it.

p.s. I think the subtitle is "Erotic tales of horror" or something so
maybe your chances are pretty good.
Joe.
Well, my memory on this book is kind of fuzzy but Philip Jose Farmer has
a book called "Eye of The Beast" (I think, somebody help me here). It
doesn't deal with vampires per se but has some vampiric concepts
intermingled with eroticism. Scared the heck out of me when I read it.

Actaully, Farmer wrote 3 such erotic horror/SF novels for Essex House. The
one you refer to is Image of the Beast and is not for the squeamish. The
other two are Blown and A Feast Unknown, the latter a sort of Tarzan meets
Doc Savage thing. All are quite good for the soft-core sex market they were
written for.

Try almost anything by Anne Rice, or her early works under her two noms de plume,
Ann Rampling or A.N. Rauquelaure. There.s a trilogy about the Sleeping beauty
legend starting with "The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty."
Alternatiely (and recommended) you could hang out in alt.sex.stories and
rec.arts.erotica. There's plenty of good material amid the dreck.

Check out the "Hot Blood", "Hotter Blood" and "Hottest Blood" series.
They have all kinds of erotic stories, and even a cool one about a
vampire that wouldn't suck blood, but since semen and blood have the
same composition (???), there are other ways to survive. Pretty
cool!

Hot Blood is an awesome book, a great collection of short sexy horror
stories... I would love to find the sequels (Hotter Blood & Hottest
Blood) that were mentioned by Cthulhu. If anyone knows which stores in
New York City currently carry these books please let me know.... I have
been looking on and off for years! (the original came out in 1989!)
Thanks!

Try almost anything by Anne Rice, or her early works under her
two noms de plume, Ann Rampling or A.N. Rauquelaure. There's
a trilogy about the Sleeping beauty legend starting with "The
Claiming of Sleeping Beauty."
This trilogy - abbreviated no doubt - is now an Audio Book recorded by
Amy Brennahan (Bresnahan?), late of NYPD Blue (the one who blew away due
mafiosi). These tales were originally attributed to "A.N. Rauquelaire",
but now get the dual attribution. Since Miss Rice now quite openly panders
to the middle-class taste in soft-core porn, its not surprising she has
"outed" her alter egos (egi? alters ego?).
