What happened to Jasmine Guy's role in "Carrie"?

I was lurking on a board the other day and someone was talking about the movie
being filmed right around the corner from where they live. She said she saw
'the girl that played Whitley on "A Different World'". So she was cast. Maybe
we was replaced last minute by Rena Sofer? But then I thought I remember
reading that Jasmine Guy was cast as someone with the last name "Moore". Hmm.

Hmm.
According to IMDB, she played Ruby Moore. Ms. Guy may be a talented actress,
but I seriously doubt she was ever considered for the part of one of the
teenagers -- she's 38 years old and played a college student on TV fifteen
years ago! I've only watched a small part of it -- perhaps she was the
videographer with David Keith? I wasn't paying all that close attention.
Whatever her part, whe was likely a teacher or some other adult, not a teen.
