It was elves. One day we walked into our offices, switched on the old
wood-burning word processors, fired up the toaster-sized modems, and all
of a sudden got these pages in which Wolf had been killed. I'm telling
you, when something like this happens to you, you just have to deal with
it. Those little monsters might look cute, and they do step in and take
care of a lot of work, but you don't - you really don't - want to piss
them off. Really.

Too bad Wolf wasn't a 'werecat' instead.
As at least Barbara, Jan and I know, those elves - or greeblings, as
they are better known in rec.pets.cats - don't have much chance
against a cat...
Andy, living in a greebling-free zone now.
Major apology for my post. Putting the spoiler right in the
subject line! It was supposed to have been "Who Killed ..."
Your flames cannot make me feel worse, but I will be very
deserving of them.

Great question! God, I was so upset when Wolf DIED in the TALISMAN; I mean,
Tom Cullen, the closest human parallel to Wolf, was one of the key characters
I was "rooting for" while reading the STAND, so I was very relieved when he
made it - especially since the other spies were killed. So, when I was
introduced to Wolf in THE TALISMAN, I thought, okay, he's a GREAT character,
of COURSE they won't kill him, and I got quite attached to the big fellow.
But NOOOOO! They killed him! I cried when I read of Jack's reunion with
Wolf's brother, but it was still sad losing such a terrific character.
However, they really didn't have a choice - the next stop after the Sunlight
Home was Jack's visit to "Rational Richard", and you can't very well have a
werewolf in tow, it immediately substantiates Jack's claims of the
Territories, and Richard's disbelief (a key character element - he must
disbelieve to protect his image of his father and his complete rejection of
the fantastic) is crucial. Besides, the final sequences HAD to take place
between Sawyer and Sloat, as they were both single natured. Still, all logic
and plot reasons aside, I was broken-hearted that Wolf had to die, but he had
a noble death, which is what all Wolfs desire, of course.
Anyone else notice the similarities in worlds between THE TALISMAN, The Dark
Tower Series, and, of course, INSOMNIA? Perhaps something like "an axis of
all worlds" in the Dark Tower, or perhaps something different at a new level?

Hmmmm.... wonder if Peter feeds his Fornit well. Perhaps it was upset
about the skimpy rations and decided to blast a wonderful character
out of existence.
Which brings up another, totally off the subject point - did anyone happen
to think about "Flexible Bullet" when reading the scene in Tommyknockers
about the souped-up toy ray-gun? Or am I just not taking my medication
regurlarly enough?

By the way, I'm sorry to all who read my "other" post... I just got done
squashing one of them elves and accidently hit the "post" button by
mistake...
