Question on new book Duma key

The book is recent. and I am only up to page 100
but it shakes a few cobwebs in my old head
I seem to remember reading this book before.
Can anyone help out with this thought

Setup is very similar to 'The Dead Zone'.

We did read most of the first chapter a while back.

I know that there is a short story about the same character at the end
of one of King's other books. It pretty much goes into detail about the
accident and all the stuff with his wife. I can't remember which book it's
in though.
