Pol and Sionell are an interesting couple. The incident at Skybowl no doubt
leaves something unresolved between them. They need to have some kind of
finality about their relationship, be that in friendship, death, hatred or
marriage. I think that we can rule out death as one, and hatred is unlikely,
given Rawn's penchant for romance. However, if Pol and Sionell do get
together, it will not be a Rohan and Sioned type love affair. (I'm not sure
that these exist outside of Melanie Rawn's mind, despite the fact that I can
imagine them all to well myself. Odd how anything comprehensible ceases to be
fiction, isn't it?) Anyway, Pol and Sionell would argue much more often, but
then make up just as Rohan and Sioned loved to do. Sionell's son (Jahni?
Jahnavi?) already has the job of ath'ri at Tiglath. Sionell is simply his
ward until he completes his training. (Anyone else see that his squireship is
in doubt here?) This leaves Sionell without a job after Jahni takes over. I
can easily imagine Pol and Sionell getting together then. Considering Pol's
feelings for his mother, I see Jahni becoming the High Prince's pet ath'ri,
and favorite pseudo-son.
Other favorite looney theories:
1) Jahni goes to Walvis as for his squireship. Who better to teach him that
his grandfather, an accomplished warrior, and a wonderful keep manager.
2) Maarken's son marries his newfound diarmahd'hi girlfriend from Firon.
They got the push from Tobin and Sionell, the world's most notorious (and
successful) matchmakers.
3) Pol takes a ride adragonback. (Maybe, maybe not) It's fun to think
about. *Hee hee* Any bets as to whether Azhdeen will let him?
4) This one's not so looney. The new Lady of Goddess Keep, Maarken and
Hollis' daughter (I'm having trouble remembering names) marries the nomad that
loves her. First Lady to be married, I think. Also, ties between the High
Prince and Goddess Keep are the best ever. Remember, this is the third
generation of the same family leading the Sunrunners.
Okay, enough for today. I have research to do if I want to remember all of
the damn names in time to respond to all the flames I'm likely to get. May
the Goddess keep and protect you all.

Andry wrought? Or is she? Or is she going to phase it out? How are the

I've wondered about the same thing. I think that with Andry gone, a lot
of the rituals will just disappear, without people thinking much about
it. The other changes will slowly phase out, with possible exception of
the order of the rings.
What I still don't understand, however, is why Andry picked
Chayla. It seems odd to pick some one who hasn't even shown all that much
interest in being a sunrunner.
Interesting possibility: If the devr'im don't like Chayla's
changes, and eventually decide to break with Goddess Keep, there would
again be a third faction. This faction would probably hunt down sourcerers.
I'm not sure if that's too likely, though.

He died in her arms, I think. But he did in fact die, which was why I was
a little disillusioned in Skybowl. Adding that to the fact that Rohan and
Sioned both died in the course of the trilogy, and it was pretty damn
depressing.

I think the devr'im are going to be the easiest part of Andry's legacy to
eliminate. Many of them died. But the other things, the concept of sin
and the extra revulstion of sorcerers. That may be harder. The
sorcerers may have helped Pol, but I'm sure they gained no friends at
Goddess Keep, nor do they seem to want them. Chayla is going to have her
hands full, and she is as rigid to her beliefs in her own way as Andry
was to his. <Damned stubborn family, all in all>
I wish Andrev hadn't died. He might have been a good compromise. Of
course, if MR intended to ever write another trilogy, the last thing she
would want to do is make life easy for the survivors of Skybowl. Happy
characters make for boring stories.

Actually, he died in her father's arms... though his last thoughts and

Depressing... definitely

I'm a member, as far as I know, as are Anna and Wendi.. BUT the problem
is that Dawn Walker, our good friend and editor, has disappeared to the
furthest of my knowledge.. so even if you WANTED to join SC, you, in
fact, couldn't. And that's icky.

I'm not even sure he did pick her. Something about the way various
people reacted to the announcement indicated to me that he hadn't named
anyone as successor and busybodies were trying to find Chayla a place.
I could be wrong, since it is hard to read between the lines. I also
don't think he picked her because of his opinion about her abortion.
She'd committed what Andry thought was a sin and didn't think there was
anything wrong with it.

I still think that there is no way the devr'im will survive Andry. Many
of them died in that final battle since they were the first in line in
Andry's link to Goddess Keep.
I still don't know about the policy about sorcerers. The hatred runs
pretty deep on both sides.

You saw Melanie fan art? really??

Well, when I did my best to organize an on-going RPG based on Melanie
over on Prodigy, one girl Stephanie Law drew a couple of pictures of my
characters.. and they were amazing.. one looked like a perfect Tobin..
:)
Though I do have a little drawing (about 2 inches high) that I think is
perfect for Tobin.. it started out being Sioned, but I just erased the
dragon and it became Tobin.. the face was too soft to be Sioned..
There also was another girl drawing pictures for the Prodigy RPG, but I
don't know what became of that..
Anna does a lot of fan art, seeing as she was the artist for Sunrunner's
Circle.. :) She has some REALLY cool stuff.. I have a sweatshirt she
made me for Christmas one year that has Elisel on it.. :)

Yep, Stephanie did a great job on those drawings!!

And having also seen this drawing, I agree that she's also a great Tobin.
I wish you'd been able to keep copies of the Rawn characters you drew for
your Sunrunners Circle ring project!!

I know... I was looking forward to seeing those!
Speaking of other artists on Prodigy... Liz Shaw is also fantastic. She
sent me some copies of her stuff, and it's amazing. Now she just needs to
do some Rawn stuff...

:D Thanks for the compliment, Irena!
One of these days I should do a Rawn character or two <grin>

So I guess that means no one has heard anything new lately! It really is
a shame...I thought it was a great group. Really enjoyed the one year
that I was a member...sent in my dues for a second year, but that was
evidently when things went kaboom, because I never got another newsletter
or anything else. Ah well, maybe one of these days it will be revived!

Anna does fabulous sketches. She has several Rawn inspired drawings (many
of which Melanie saw and approved, Anna?). People are her specialty even
if she's never done any of Melanie's characters.

Since we're all gravitating to this place, it's only natural to assume we
do have the right. <G>
Anna, you need to do a few Rawn characters for real. <G> (after you do

Nope, I've not heard anything new and it's been over a year. :(
It was great getting "inside" info in the letters from Melanie... I really

Melanie's has the original of my interpretation of the seal Maarken
designed for Pol (since I drew it specifically for her to attempt to show
my appreciation of the books :), and I know she used to get copies of
Sunrunners Circle which had little bits of artwork in them, but she hasn't
seen anything else.
I really DO need to do some of Melanie's characters, huh? :)

This sounds great -- where do you get these pictures? Have they

What is Sunrunner's Circle like? I haven't been in a fan club for ages
because some of them get so nasty and political. Is it a friendly place?
My last comment on Fan Art is that I just don't seem to know the right
people to see any good FA in person. <sigh>

Hmmmmm......
I may get my head bitten off for saying it, but Anna does have a 'graphic
file' portfolio and at least one item in it is....

:) We were just talking about that under another topic, actually...
None of us has heard from Dawn in probably about a year. I used to do the
artwork for the newsletter, and she also used to have an account on
Prodigy, so several of us spoke to her on a fairly regular basis when we
were there too, but she dropped out of sight and the SC P.O. box was
closed sometime last June.
Unfortunately, your guess is a good as ours. :/
>What is Sunrunner's Circle like? I haven't been in a fan club for ages

Sunrunners Circle WAS really cool. It seems to no longer exist... or at
least not at the moment. It was a bi-monthly newsletter that normally
included a cover letter from Melanie, interesting general Sunrunner
information, pen pal listings, artwork <G>, opinions from the members on
questions posed by the editior, messages "on the light" to other members
(who had chosen a Sunrunner name and colors), and a cool system to earn
"rings" by completing certain projects.
>My last comment on Fan Art is that I just don't seem to know the right

<grin> A friend is putting together a web page/gallery for me that's
almost completed, and there will be a couple of Rawn-inspired pieces
there...

Nah... I wouldn't do that :)
The word is that it's done, and he's gonna send me the files today :::huge
grin:::
Once it's working I'll let you know...
Hi, folks... I posted about this quite a while back, but I figured I'd
repeat it since the subject has come up again... I was supposed to be
running the Writer's Group that SC was trying to form near the end. When
the newsletters stopped coming, I contacted Dawn, who told me that Melanie
had moved and for some reason, had stopped communicating with her. Dawn
tried to reach her numerous times and was going to attempt to reach her
through her publisher. Dawn told me that she felt without Melanie's
support and her personal touches to the newsletter, there didn't seem to
be much sense in continuing. That was the last I heard from Dawn.
I was very sorry because it was a great newsletter and I was looking
forward to the Writer's Group. My letter to the participants was never
printed because the newsletters ceased to exist. If it is true that
Melanie abandoned the group, for whatever reason, then it is truly a
shame. It's people like us, who truly support an author on his/her way
up, that can help to make the difference and make an author well-known and
well-read. Oh, well! I still love her work.
My best to you all‹Dawn Brosonski
>Hi, folks... I posted about this quite a while back, but I figured I'd

Hi Dawn... thank you! I'm new to the newsgroup and had NO idea what had
happened. You heard more from Dawn Walker than I ever did :)
I do know that Melanie moved from the Los Angeles area to Arizona around
the end of '94. I wonder if the letters ever got to her because I can't
see her ignoring Dawn like that. I've talked with Melanie several times at
various booksignings and conventions, and she is _always_ willing to talk
extensively with fans of her work.

I agree with that too, but I wish she had sent all of the members some
sort of explanation. Thank you for clearing up a bit of the mystery. :)
