Can someone with a little greater insight explain to me *who* exactly
Collan remembered he was right before his, er, demise? I've read that
section over and over, but I can't seem to connect his newly un-Warded
memories with what I recall from _Exiles_.
All attempts at clarity appreciated.

It wasn't made clear. :)
*My* guess is: One grandmother is Els...something Garvedian, a Mage-Bard;
a grandfather is Viko Rosvenir. These aren't really powerful Names both,
so maybe not, but...it would be like Gorsha to hide Collan in a family
Name he has some blood from.

that should be enough...

Is there a vague word for demise? I don't know the details surrounding this
incident, but I do know that one of my favorite characters doesn't make it
through the book.
Simple... we don't yet know what he remembers. Melanie hasn't given us
enough information yet. So the rest of us are still as clueless as you
are.
Anyone willing to give me odds that he's Gorynel Desse's son? Hell,
Desse seems to have fathered everyone else around here. <grin>

By the sounds of it, the wards all of a sudden disappear, just before the moment
of death, and he remembers his family. He says that they were all well loved, and
from 4 great families (or some such like) He also calls Sarra...'Sarra Ambrai',
as if he's suddenly recognised her for who she really is. (As he didn't know her
real identity before this) And do you remember all the way throught the books
there has been that wind element (1st chapter of RoA when he gets knocked into the
ravine by the wind) Collan says that there was no wind after all, and that it was
his memories (or something like that, please correct me if I'm wrong!) . There
are some theories on Pandemonium that Collan's mother is Elseveth Garvedian, but
the father is still debated!
I can't remember anymore!
Hope this helps!

Hell's Bells, you're right... what colors was he wearing?!?!? And
which family owns them?
spoilers below
From what I gathered, Collan remembered his family, and realised that he
was Mageborn. The fact that he could take Glenin's 'killing' instincts from
her seems to indicate that Collan was Mageborn as well as the colossal
Mage-giftedness of Taigan and Mikel - Cailet does some wondering about who
Collan was to produce such children with Sarra's Ambrai-Feiran Mage-gifts.
Although it is kind of interesting that throughout RoA and MT, Sarra is very
obviously (to the reader) Mageborn and toted as such, while Collan is denied
to be Mageborn at every turn. Which could mean everything, or could mean
nothing.
Who his family was is not (yet) revealed. Although, once again, I would be
in no way surprised if Gorsha had a hand in it. "Why not the man with at
least one Mageborn out of every breeding pair of his Blood -right back to
the Waste War?" demands Cailet in RoA when Gorsha first makes her Captal.
