Synopsis: A major figure in the Arte Povera movement of the late 1960s, the renowned Italian artist Giuseppe Penone (b. April, 3, 1947) is known for his exploration of the relationship between art and the natural world in a body of work that includes sculpture, performance, works on paper, and even garden design. His first works in porcelain, the exquisite disks presented here, draw attention to the moment of touch (the convergence of surface and skin) that underpins so much of his work.

Published to accompany a special exhibition of works by Penone organised by New York's Frick Collection, "Propagazioni: Giuseppe Penone at Sevres" is a new volume that comprises eleven porcelain disks that the artist made during his 2013 collaboration with the Manufacture Nationale de Sevres, the influential porcelain factory founded in the 18th century. A continuation of his Propagazioni (Propagations) series, begun in 1995, which includes various media, each disk bears the imprint of one of the artist's fingertips. One of them is in gold, its imprint a variation on the artist's index finger. Never before presented to the public, the disks are installed in a gallery adjacent to a porcelain at the Frick's temporary home on Madison Avenue, kindling a rich artistic dialogue which is further explored in this remarkable volume.

Critique: With the publication of "Propagazioni: Giuseppe Penone at Sevres by Xavier F. Salomon (deputy director and Peter Jay Sharp Chief Curator, The Frick Collection, New York) and Giulio Dalvit (assistant curator of Sculpture, The Frick Collection, focusing on the museum's sculpture and medals collections), have created an inherently fascinating and expertly illustrated volume that is further enhanced with the inclusion of a two page Bibliograpy. This unique study will prove to be a valued and very special addition to personal, professional, community, and academic library Art History collections. .

9781858947013, $35.00, HC, 160pp

https://www.amazon.com/Nature-Creativity-Mindful-Approach-Making/dp/1858947014

Synopsis: As we become increasingly aware of the power of nature to lift our spirits, so, too, are we becoming more conscious of the role that mindfulness can play in sparking our creativity.

With the publication of "The Nature of Creativity: A Mindful Approach to Making Art & Craft" renowned textile artist and embroiderer Jane E. Hall brings this perception together. As a successful professional artist, Jane still finds great happiness and inspiration in connecting with nature, and here encourages the reader to attune to the beauty of the natural world as a way of stimulating their creativity.

Jane begins by explaining how spending time in nature helps us to engage the senses and rediscover playfulness, and outlines her belief that one should embrace the process of making art rather than focusing on its final form. She shares the special spaces, both indoors and out, that allow her imagination to have free rein, and then presents 10 creative ideas inspired by nature.

These 'Creative Contemplations' first explore building your own treasure collection of materials to use in artistic projects, and then move on to the creation of a range of beautiful designs: stunning mandalas of petals, leaves, and shells; delicate dreamcatchers; a dainty purse of honesty seed pods; handmade birds' nests; exquisite embroidered butterflies; 'woodland fairies' composed of lichen-covered twigs and feathers; and much more. Some 'Contemplations' include step-by-step instructions, while others feature the stories behind their making in order to inspire you to push beyond your perceived creative limits.

Jane's writing style is uplifting and engaging, and the text throughout is accompanied by specially commissioned photography. No matter how skilled or unskilled you believe yourself to be, "The Nature of Creativity" will nurture artistic thoughts and help to find inner happiness through the natural landscape, unlock artistic potential and breathe creativity back into daily life!

Critique: Impressively illustrated throughout with full color photography, "The Nature of Creativity: A Mindful Approach to Making Art & Craft" is an inherently fascinating and inspiring read that will have a very special appeal to nature and mixed- media crafts. Exceptionally well written, organized and presented, "The Nature of Creativity: A Mindful Approach to Making Art & Craft" is very highly recommended for personal, professional, community, and academic library Contemporary Arts & Crafts collections.
