Continuity Issues with Wrath of a Mad God ***Warning Spoilers***

I just finished reading Wrath last night and there were portions with which I had some issues.
1st, just what is the elapsed time since the Serpentwar? Whenever a character mentions it, they say
30-40 yrs. Yet Erik is in his mid eighties, suggestin a 60 yr time difference. Also earlier in Flight of the Nighthawks,
I think, They mentioned Robert de Lyis passing in his sleep the previous year at not yet seventy, but he
should be roughly the same age as Erik.
2nd. Kaspar says he has only seen one elf before. Later he says he has never met Tomas, yet he was taken to Elvandar with
the Talnoy in Exile's Return.
3rd. Why are the Minwanabi a family again? A later sentence tries to explain their exitstence, but it just seems forced.
4th. The old Acoma estates have been a kind of Shrine? They were given to Lujan at the end of Mistress of the Empire when
he was granted the right to form his own noble house.
5th. Why is Pug estranged from Dashel and James Jamison. At the end of SoaBK, he says that
although he has to make a break, they will always be welcome. Dash agrees with the decision and James wishes them well.
Essentially, they were on good terms about the break. I find it out of character for Pug not to have maintained a relationship
with them, especially as they were his link to Gamina.
6th. This one is not so much continuity, but more in the vein of poor proofing since Conclave of shadows.
Characters name spelling, and town spelling has been rough. In the first chapter where he is introduced, the
leader of the Elves of the Sun is introduced as Castdandur, spelling used more than once. There after, he
is Castdanur. Kaspar become Kasper. Robert D'Lyes spelling changes all the time, this being the original
and above I have spelled it as it's latest form. Instead of Salador, it is Salvador.
These types of errors have become far more prevalent since COS. They may be nitpicky, but they
have the tendency to jar me from the Narrative.
Anyway, that is all I have to say about continuity.

I had the same observations. I believe it was also stated that Erik never
wed (Miranda I believe.) I guess Kitty was a dream. The thing is, none of
these issues had any real connection with the story.

Well, I think Pug had a pile more brute magical strength than Miranda,
and in a few area's that he'd studied in particular (like rifts)
probably knew more than her, but she's a lot older than him I believe,
and was in a general, overall sort of fashion, more advanced
technically even if there where some things where she couldn't bring
enough strength to bear to do them.
As best I recall (which probably isn't all that well) Pug learned how
to teleport to spots he could see, to patterns that he'd learned well
enough, like those the assembly used but otherwise couldn't just
teleport anywhere he wanted without using one of those devices.
Miranda on the other hand could teleport to anyplace she'd been
before. Sort of like she could use the everyday objects around the
place as a pattern where as other magicians needed big, simple
patterns to focus on. Of course, it's been a while since I've read
anything but the latest book, so might not be remembering a spot where
Pug teleported in the same fashion as Miranda does.

Having just got my hands on a copy myself (damn poverty!) all I can say is
that it was a damn fine read.
I noticed lots of typographical errors, in fact I started keeping a log of
them, thinking to send them to the publishers.... Those sort of mistakes
jump out at me, perhaps I could solve the poverty thing by becoming a proof
reader. Does anyone know if it pays well?
As for your "Continuity Issues", I can't say that they bothered me much. I
didn't even notice most of them as I've been reading Ray's work for so long
now, with big spaces between books that I don't recall every exact detail
anymore. I mean, 13 books in the last 10 years alone, with 24 books total
(six co-authored, with four different authors) based in the same world/s,
written non-chronologically in some cases. There's a lot of details to keep
track of.
We know that Ray had some personal stuff happen during the writing of Wrath,
and that it was likely rushed through the editing stage in an attempt to not
miss deadlines by too much. I guess, when all's said and done, you have to
exercise a little of that "suspension of disbelief" that TV and movie folks
encourage and remember that Ray's been doing this for a long time now. I'm
sure that *I* couldn't keep track of exact details of every character while
undergoing a big upheaval in my life and trying to meet a deadline. You
expect the editors to earn their money too.
All in all, having finished the book literally ten minutes ago, (hence this
newsgroup has been left un-read until now) I have to say that I really
enjoyed it. Vintage Feist. Taut, edge-of-the-seat stuff. One of the best
books in the series for a while now IMHO. I'm not about to let small
continuity details (which are the resonsibility of the editors anyway)
bother me. Especially some of the stuff you mention from the "Empire" series
which Ray may well have not written. (As I understand it Janny and Ray
pretty much took turns writing whole passages of that series.)
I enjoyed the book very much and am really looking forward to the next
series. :-)
