I'm curious to know who you think were the 3 best characters of the
Riftwar Saga - let's not include Pug or Arutha since I figure they
will be on most lists. If there are no female characters on your
lists of 3, please include a female as a fourth choice. Also, who do
you think was the most memorable bad guy of the series. To make this
a more lively subject, please feel free to disagree (in a friendly
manner) with some of the choices -- but tell why you disagree.

I hope this isn't too silly for this group.

1. Dashel Jamison (He's gonna be the frigging upright man!)
2. Rupert Avery (I thought RoaMP was one of Feist's best!)
3. Calis (He was the Eagle of Krondor!)
4. Miranda (She's shagging Pug!)

I know these are all characters from the most chronologically recent books,
but since we couldn't put Pug or Arutha and I knew everyone would have Jimmy
the Hand on the top of the list, I went with these four. There were so many
great characters picking only four to be the best does not do the rest
justice. Duke Guy, Amos, Martin, Nakor, Nicholas, and Mara all deserve to
be on this list as well.

#1 has GOT to be Boldar Blood!

After that, I would say Thomas (I like my heroes larger than
life), and Nakor (I love the mix of power and humor).

For a female, Nakor's wife (sorry, I forgot her name), she's
truly distinctive.

For the bad guy, I would probably say, the Dread.

1. Tomas
2. Martin
3. Briana/Calis (And she's not here just because you asked for a female,
she's one of my favorites. Think it's because I started with Darkness :)

Ken,

You've asked a difficult question since Arutha is one of my favorite
characters in the Riftwar Saga. Nonetheless, I can definitely list three
characters who I found very interesting. Please note, I am only
considering characters who appeared during the Riftware itself and not
those from Silverthorn or A Darkness at Sethanon.

1. Ashen-Shugar

I'm sure this one comes as no surprise. Ashen-Shugar is one of my
favorites for many reasons. As you listen to him speak and watch his
actions, you quickly realize that he knew his place in the world and was
satisfied with his existence. There were no pretenses at all. What made
him especially interesting was how he reacted to the presence of Thomas,
a being both alien to him and a part of him.

2. Macros the Black

Here we've got the most powerful sorcerer on Midkemia and Kelewan, a man
who has manipulated some of the most significant events in the history
of both worlds. Admittedly, he seems pretty cut and dry but there is
still an aura about him that commands attention.

3. All of the gods and goddeses

The mythology of REF's universe is amazing. I'd love to see someone
collect all of the details about the major pantheons and the races who
believe in them, i.e. human, dwarf, and elven. I consider them some of
the best characters because of the beliefs they symbolize and the
importance of those beliefs to the characters.

The requested best female character:

1. Carline

A girl who grew up by the time the Riftwar ended. Who'd've thought she'd
end up falling for a minstrel.

The most memorable bad guy

This one is tough to answer since it's truly hard to say whether many of
the "bad guys" were truly bad or just misguided fools. For example,
Draken-Korin may seem like a bad guy. However, in the long run it
appears he was simply doing what he felt was right. 'course, he was also
being manipulated by the Nameless one but that's a whole different topic
of discussion. We also have Murmandamus and the Pantatheons. Again,
truly evil? Or simply misguided fools. In this case, I believe it is a
combination of both. They're willing to throw away everything to bring
back a Valheru "goddess" whos time has long since past.

Never forget that a bad guy does not know he is bad. Utimatly if you look
at all
the people that way nobody is bad since they all act in what they think is
the
best thing.

The movie Arlington Road is a good example.

The good guy was trying to do what he thought was right, and so was
the bad guy.

Touché! Excellent point. I look at the moredhel and see mostly misguided
fools. Then I look at the Pantathians and see one of the many shades of
evil that REF put into the world of Midkemia, much in the same way that
he and Janny Wurts put the leaders of the Minwanabi into the empire on
Kelewan.

Well, Nakor, Brisa and Sylvia were not in the riftwar saga(just wanted to
mention it).
As for me, I liked
1. Guy-misunderstood genius
2. Amos-pirate, ruffian, but overall nice guy, and
3. Roald-a heroic man with no hidden agendas(too bad he bit the dust)
As for chicks, I'll have to say Aglaranna, because she was hot, wise and had
pointy ears.
The best villain was undoubtedly Murmandamus.

1) Erik is a good character (obviously not from the riftwar though)
2) Nakor made me smile a few times and I thought him dancing round sounded
quite humorous
3) Miranda, she was quite interesting...hehehe
4) I also quite liked katala, especially when she kicks Pug (in the
magician) that made me smile.

At least Miranda wouldn't get any diseases, since she's a magician. So she
is free to have any man in her. I don't particularly like her because she
only goes after high-flying characters like Calis and Pug.

My favorites are:
1) Nakor - great personality
2) Kitty - down-to-earth
3) Pug (during the Riftwar)
4) Katala - charming

This is my first post in this NG so I hope I'm not breaking any rules I dont
know of but my 3fav characters are

1. Jimmy the Hand - one of the most fleshed out characters in the series and
we got to see him evolve from a boy into the man he was in the later books.

2. Borric duke of Crydee - Seemed like a generally nice and noble man
(except for the whole Martin Deal but even then he turned out to be a nice
guy)

3. Guy - Perfect compliment to Borric IMO

4. Caroline - Didn't you sort of wish that she would have ended up with Pug?

well thats about it

Normally at a time like this I'd ask you for advice, and you'd say

"Well, what is it?" and I'd say, "Well, sir, Lisa wants to have a baby, but
she doesn't want to get married," and you'd say "Dave, why milk the cow when
you have a fridge full of steaks?" And I'd say, "Sir, that makes no sense,"
and you'd say, "Well, it sure made sense when that guy Chuck Connors said it
in that movie Chinatown," and I'd say, "Sir, Chuck Connors wasn't in
Chinatown," and you'd say, "Dave, if I wanted to have this conversation I'd
have hired that guy Siskel Ebert to do your job," and I'd say, "Sir, Siskel

1: Jimmy the Hand ( As a thief)- By far the most charming and interesting
character of the series.

2: Amos Trask- What could you not like about this guy. Pure swashbuckling
and derrying- do all the way.

3: Squire Jimmy- Putting a twist on the role of the average young noble.

4: Aglaranna- Hot Elf chick, nuff' said!

5: Murmandamus- The most purely evil character to appear since the Dark
Lords in Lord of the Rings.

Yes your breaking ALL the rules! Okay Im lying...but I suggest you shorten
your Sig to about two or three lines because it's against the FAQ of pretty
much every NG. Hey it might even be against this NG's FAQ but I wouldn't
know as I haven't read it yet.
