from www.cinescape.com, 19 august 1999:

In Memory of Brion James:

After days of rumors, it has sadly been confirmed that character actor
Brion James has passed away. James is probably best known to filmgoers
as the replicant named Leon from the classic Blade Runner, though he
also appeared in a number of other high profile films including 48
Hours, The Fifth Element and The Player. What is not as well know is his
work in helping young Hollywood actors break away from drugs and
alcohol. James, who was 54, died from a heart attack. Our condolences to
his family and friends.

This is the first that I've heard of this sad news. I must have seen
that actor a hundred times but always remembered him from "Blade
Runner". Very sad indeed.
