I would pronounce it flee'bus, with the "u" meant to be a schwa. I'm
an American from the Midwest, speaking a strongly rhotic dialect. A
non-rhotic speaker, like a South Englander, might render that
fleebers, and not pronounce the "r".

Dammit, I've been pronouncing it Flay-Bass (Bass as in the fish, not the
instrument).

And I render it "Flebbus" (emphasis on the short e, the u is again a
schwa). Wierd..

Well, I don't know if it's still true, but there was a time (a few
months ago) when it was pointed out to me that I had the most mentions
of cats on usenet...

But When? Where? Why? Do you go up to women at parties and say,
provocatively, "Con-sidder Flay-Bass", and then sort of pucker at them
in the hope that they will flutter their eyelids at you and ask: "How
intiguing, I'd love you to to come back to my apartment asnd tell me
why I should?"

No, it's currently being used as a greeting safeword by the local
Illuminati Chapter.

(Although it does work on some women. It's only got a 27.6% success rate
tho)
