Orwell, Stalin, Solzhenitsyn and fashion

I notice that the line inthis newsgroup is that Orwell in 1984 was not talking
about the People Prtogressive and Loving Democratic Republics.
Actually< I think he was. And Solzhenitsyn makes much of the 1984 nature of
the Communist -- not jus tthe Staliinist -- regime.
Im glad you are all too fashiuonavble to see any of that.

This newsgroup has no `line'. It is not a political party. I wouldn't be here
if it were.

In any case, the references to the U.S.S.R. in _1984_ are so widely understood
& so easily spotted that there is no longer much to talk about: we've been
through all that before. But no doubt someone as educated as yourself has
slogged through the back history of alt.books.george-orwell on DejaNews &
found that out.
