Hi, I'm brand new to the Deryni series. Awaiting The Bishop's Heir to
arrive now that I've finished the Deryni Chronicles. I'm hooked. So I
thought I'd ask if there is a release date for the second Childe
Morgan book by the same name?

I was trying to figure it out from the Deryni.net site, but some of
the info seems old as it still makes reference to the upcoming release
of KKB and that's out.

Thanks
Irene

No.

Last rumor has it sometime in 2006. Katherine has been awfully quiet
about the status of the book other than she is way behind.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Deryni! I've been a fan since mid80's
when someone left the book in my dorm room. Definitely read all of the
deryni series, but don't leave out the Adept series that she wrote with
Deborah Turner Harris. Her books on knights templar are near and dear
to me since I have been interested in them since my dad mentioned a book
he had read about them about 30 years ago.

Wierd has such a negative impression and might give Irene the wrong
impression of us. "More unigue outlook on life than others" is far
tamer and less threatening lets them be pulled in with a false sense of
security.

Welcome Irene, we are a fairly harmless group. I've been reading
Katherine books since the early ..... er .... a long time. (Deryni
Checkmate had just come out.) She is one of few authors that I look
forward to each book that comes out- just wish she would write faster.
By the way if you haven't heard, Katherine normally shows up in the
chat room Sunday afternoons about 6pm ET. You can get there through
Deryni Destinations. All are welcome to join.

What Jerry said, Irene. And yes, DD could use a definite update. We're

unthreatening. What are your basic views on chocolate, cats and coffee? =o)

Heh! I prefer MaK's term "unique" (I know I'm definitely unique -and
many people say thank heaven for those kind of favors!) 8-)

Melissa forgot to add the basic thingie about Peeps! And you don't

that lets me out.

Btw, folks, I spotted Peeps in The Christmas Tree Shop the other day!

Thank you all for the welcome and the update on the book.
I absolutely LOVE the Adept series and I wish that KK was able to write more
in that series as well.

My views are as follows:
I am not addicted to chocolate. I can quit any time. I think I prefer milk
over dark, but I would never say no to either.

My hubby and I are the parents of 2 cats. One is white and black and her
name is Winter (but we call her "little one), the other is all black and her
name is Kitty (but we call her psychokitty).

Coffee for me has to be freshly ground and strong. I dislike Starbuck's
because coffee wasn't meant to be burnt. Since I'm Cuban, my preference is
for strong Espresso with sugar. Required to sustain life.

Okay, this takes it. Irene's in. Who wants to administer the Deryni
Noogies? Someone else will have to give her the secret peep symbol so
we can recognize her. Mine's locked in a drawer and it will stay that

Hey, Imladris,

Allergies are legit. =o) I'm even cool with those who don't particularly
like cats. My question was simply to let Irene know the kind of off -topic
topics that sometimes pop up around here.

Living in sneezing, wheezing misery is not my idea of a good time, and if
Iguanas make you happy, I say more power to you. However I'm sorry that you
had one cross the rainbow bridge, recently. My aunt had a pet tarantula
when she was a kid--it drove my mom and my uncle crazy, as neither of them
particularly cared for spiders. Come to think of it, neither do I. They
certainly have their place in nature and the ecosystems of the world, but as
pets, no. =o)

Me, too, Imladris. *Extremely* allergic to anything bearing fur. Just
ask my husband. Growing up, I always thought that Dad just didn't want
us to get pets. Then I hit my teens and the allergies kicked in with a
vengeance. You know it's *really good* when the doctor sends you to an
allergist and they do that little test with all the pinpricks and the
allergist makes sounds like he's impressed... (meanwhile, you're trying
not to claw all the skin off your arms because the little pinpricks are
so darned ITCHY!)

How about unexpected mice in the kitchen? Mouses should not live in
houses. But we got mice. I came downstairs this morning, filled my tea
kettle at the sink, put it on the stove, bent down to put on my trouser
socks and saw the glue trap with not one, but two! mice in it, right
where I'd just been standing near the sink! Now, you have to know that
neither of the two glue traps was placed anywhere near the sink last
night...

Before anyone says "inhumane," please let me assure you that we've
tried all the other versions of mouse traps, and when it came to mouse
turds on my kitchen counter, even I decided to use the glue traps. We
caught two mouses and they were chubby little stinkers-- this, in the
middle of Massachusetts, in teh midddle of the winter...

*and* I got to quote "Ladyhawke" to my husband: "The mouse is leaving
the house/No mouse today, he's gone away..." ;)

We almost always have a few mice in the house in winter. Have you tried
peanut butter, Julianne? That seems to be the one thing they cannot resist.
I've had mice run into a trap baited with peanut butter in the hall or
kitchen, with 7 cats running loose in the house. I use live traps, but a
snap trap with peanut butter will get 'em dead quickly. We just haul 'em
out to the woods and let 'em go. Yeah, yeah, I know- they probably just
head right back into the basement.....

Tried peanut butter. The little stinkers eat the peanut butter without
ever setting off the trap... and then there are the places where they
*haven't* eaten the peanut butter. I think that may be even worse.

Hmm, I never did introduce myself, just jumped in and started posting,
but I had been reading the newsgroup off and on for a while. I started
out reading KK back when DR, DC, and HD had a second run from
Ballantine with slightly different covers from when they were first
published as part of Lin Carter's Adult Fantasy line that he edited
for Ian and Betty in the late 60s/early 70s, so as you can see I am no
spring chicken, but I think/act/feel/live like one! *big grin*

I'm hooked on the three C's, by the way, with one change: as much as I
love coffee, I need me some Coca-Cola every day. Organic chocolate,
dark and rich, is the best. (Found some great choc in a Whole Foods
that has the company name of Dagoba--I kid you not--check it out,
because it's good stuff.) And I am owned by three cats. The fourth
cat, sister to one of the boys, lives with my ex, or else I would have
four critters here. :)

This is great! I have one black male (his psycho sister--and she
really is strange--lives with my ex), and the other brother and sister
set are piebald white and black. Won't mention their names here, but
just to say that they are all named after characters in a British SF
TV show. *grins* In fact, my ex got another cat, and promptly named
her after yet another character from said show. :)

Thank you for saying that! Starbucks only sees me for that strawberry
freeze thingy in the summertime. If I have to drink chain coffee, I'll
go to Caribou Coffee. I know that some folks like Barnie's in the
malls, but their coffee is so weak and boring, that, well, it's not my
cuppa. *grins* But all this is JMHO and YMMV.

>Since I'm Cuban, my preference is

My Spanish teacher in high school was Cuban, and she was always
bringing into class cool cultural things; we esp. liked it when she
brought in food and drink, of course. The Cuban coffee she made for us
once was rather strong! And here I had been thinking that my mother's
coffee was strong. :) But all of it was good drinking.

Have two bearded dragons.. juveniles now about 10 months old or so.. unfortunately both males being from the same clutch and with plenty of food, they are still ok with one another, but subject to change.  One thing about bearded dragons,  they snuggle into people.  [Of  course, this is because back home in the outback they settle themselves into the sand that way, so in effect, they treat people like dirt!] which endears them to people.  Unlike Mitch these two, spend most of the day longing... left lid off cage twice they escaped to the top of the terrarium with no attempt at exploring any futher.
The late "Winifred"  aka Phred, was an unusual girl.  She didn't care much for strangers, but frequently would sleep with my daughter (in her 20's), and was "potty-trained"  --   would head into daughter's bathroom when she had to go...!   She also would snuggle into her "mom's" shoulder and nuzzle her nose to her neck.  Finally, was the first lizard ever saw .. that liked to sleep with a pillow,  would put her head up on the pillow to sleep.

I've no idea how old Mitch is- they've had him for a few years, but no idea how old he was when they got him.  They left him with us in Feb. when they went to Florida for a week.  I actually picked him up this time- I did not last time!  He did sit with me very nicely, but then our house tends to be a bit on the chilly side, so I think he was just using me for the warmth when he was out of his cage.  But he can move pretty darned fast when he wants to!

He doesn't like me much I don't think. I start to go near the cage and
he puffs up and makes his throat big and black - the dragon equivalent
of the finger!

See if you get fresh cricket you ungrateful boogerhead.

And thank you, for that, too- no flavors in my coffee, either! Yuck!

Last time Mitch was here, he kept running away from Jill and every time I
would take him, he settled right down... Go figure....

Thanks, Matt, just reminded me to order CRICKETS!!!! And, no... not
dragon equivalent of finger, it is challenge saying.. "hey, I am the
tough guy around here! " The response is to pick him up, stare him
down, maybe bob at him.. and tell him to calm down, and get that beard
back to normal colour. When he eventually does... let him know he is
good boy.. and put him back. He will know that he cannot bluff you
then. And, then they will settle down.

Thank you for your warm welcome and for telling about your cats--they
have such lovely names! :)

Am looking on the wrapper of a Dagoba chocolate bar and I see that
dagoba is Greek (?) for temple of the gods. (Now the use by Lucas
makes more sense!) Of course, we already knew that theobroma means
food of the gods. *grins* This stuff tastes so good that if you just
eat a little, it's more satisfying than a cheap choco bar. I usually
get a bar of the 59% Dark.
